I feel your pain. However 27's post helped me come to grips with some things. HS season is for the team. Do whatever you can for your team to progress. Summer ball and fall ball along with workouts can be more focused toward the individual.

My son is a catcher first and pitcher second. However what the team needed was for him to play third. The catcher in front of him is also talented and doesn't really play another position. Plus, the kid is a great hitter. So my son has tried to play third because that is what the team needed and where the opportunities are available. Needless to say he has had his high spots as well as low spots. He has bounced back and forth between JV and varsity. At first it was tough. Now he just focuses on helping the team and getting better. I can't find fault in his work ethic. He's doing the best he can to play a position that he has little history at playing. That is where the team needs him today. In the summer he can catch a bunch and pitch some. But right now he has to do what's best for the team.

I firmly believe it will all work out. Maybe he becomes more diversified in his skills. Maybe he helps the team achieve more. I just try to encourage him and tell him to learn from it. It may sound corny but I believe he'll be better for it. Good luck to your son Indy. Somewhere in all this there is a positive.
