    my take

I go back to the timing decision that coach made for the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME, no less........to shake up his lineup. I'm guessing that when players saw the lineup card, there must have been some surprised looks & reactions, maybe not verbally but this type of thing gets in players' heads.
HS coaches would you consider doing a similar shakeup in a state championship game? I know that's not exactly comparing apples with apples, but still??

Maybe it's old-fashioned, but what happened to "going with what got you to the the dance?"

Personally, I think Coach Fox didn't do anything any different than he had done the rest of the season. I thought it was a well played game by two good teams. I really liked the call of trying to steal home, but I'm not sure why it wasn't done earlier. That's the only thing to question from my point of view, but maybe he was trying to get a situation where something off speed was coming to increase his chances. Coach Fox coached well enough to get them there, so I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt!

I'd be interested to know how many innings prior to the last game when the Heels infield had Flack at 3rd and Fedex at 1b.

Well played? Carolina made four errors, left countless runners on base, and allowed OSU to run the bases with impunity. It was a well-pitched game, but certainly not a well-played game.

Ok, let's blame it on the coach and it will be all better. Makes a lot of sense.

I understand your point, Coach, but part of the fun of sports is second guessing a coach. It's a time honored profession and one fans do real well :D

Hey, but we're pretty good at blamin' umps too!

In the final CWS game you had one coach that went with what had got him there: he or his staff took a visit to the mound when, physically, it was warranted and he left his squad in tack on the field everybody playing where they had the entire CWS.

The other reconfigured his defense by moving around 1/3 of his position players around winding up with guys in places they weren't as experienced or comfortable in. NOTHING was added by those moves and maybe in total, it was a negative. Offensively those roster changes added NOTHING. Then he visited the mound to disrupt the rhythm of the other team or his pitcher? The kid was throwing 95-97 AND hitting his spots (despite what the umpire thought). So this coaching in the biggest game of the season and maybe modern day UNC baseball, produced NOTHING positive and was, IMO, highly disruptive to a team who up to that point was 8-1 in the CWS.

The kids didn't make it happen on the field. That is a fact. But in the final analysis, the coach who did less got more and the coach who did more got less. Championships at the highest levels of competition are typically won or lost on the margin - so you be the judge.

I am not a Tarheel fan but despite this one game, UNC players and coaches had one of the greatest baseball seasons ever! They represented their parents, home towns, state and conference superbly. Congrats guys!

Agreed. You make excellent points. Braves, I agree with you as well. I just want to say my hat's off to Mike Fox and the rest of the UNC staff and team. You guys had a great season and have plenty to be proud of dispite the outcome of the national championship.
