There are some Juco's known to do this, but there are a few other 4 year programs that bring 'em in amd weed 'em out. Most people that have done a little homework and asked a few questions can find out which programs do this. That's why I mentioned investments...the bigger it is, the better the opportunity.

Thanks, Yankees. While still disturbing, I understand now.

I may be wrong on this, maybe out of line but i feel that when the athletic program in this case baseball recruits 35 to 40 players knowing they are weeding out 20 or more of these players it give me the impression they are recruiting for enrollment purposes and to keep other schools from getting the players.

btw ,, its understandable if that particular school offers a JV / Developmental squad. I think!!!

I was told by a former player of mine that the coach sometimes overrecruited to keep other schools from getting the players... BUt this crossed my mind, could they overrecruit because they did not do their homework as well as they should have and need the extras to get a few good ones?? Just a thought

Most of them do have a JV program, but I know of one that doesn't

I imagine they could, but I would suspect that the recruiting co-ordinator will not be in that position very long. 11.7 schollys are not a lot to be playing around with

why some may seem to over recruit..

A Div 1 Recruiting Coach was point blank asked if he over recruited players and his response was, "Yes." The reason he gave for doing it was that so many in-state players wanted to come to the school that by offering the players something... no matter how little... it kept the in-state High School coaches happy and the kids happy just to be able to say they had gotten an offer from "Big U''...college coach knowing all along that they would be weeded out in the fall.

Some of the most interesting material that this board has put together in some time. Now we need to expand it to the quality programs that are recruiting it correctly and not be as prone to not mention the names of those that are not. Some of you know the quality programs that do it correctly, let your fingers do the talking and give those programs the kudos that they deserve. Being postive and showing kids and parents that from some that know this is what to be expected from a quality program would be valuable service of tbr. Just maybe some of the other programs maty take note and change for the better. This threadis valuable not only for the present but for those that follow year after year. Some of you know the number and caliber of people that see the words that are written on these pages and you can be certain those programs would not want to be left off. Just my two cents1:twocents:

The concern I have about our acting on your suggestion, Smart, is that determinations such as the ones you call for are frequently matters of individual perspective and opinion; not to mention the possibility of their being based upon incomplete and/or inaccurate information.

As they say: "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder." I'd hate to see a useful thread thrown into a "beauty contest" based upon personal opinion.

The true value in this thread is the constant reminders to do your homework and be realistic in your childs abilities. Then give some credit to the schools past recruiting and figure that they probably have gotten some good players and your child might just be an average fish in the NEW POND. Does he wan't to be a little fish in a big pond, or a big fish in a little pond? No right answer for all of us as some kids will go on to be big fish in the big ponds.

"Caveat Emptor" (spelling ???) or should we say "Recruit be aware".
