    That losing streak? It’s history.
The Statesville Owls snapped a four-game skid Monday night in Southern Collegiate Baseball League action, beating the Asheville Redbirds 8-2 at Statesville High.
Kenny Jackson (Hofstra University) and Lucas Weber (USC-Upstate) recorded two hits apiece for the Owls, who improved to 2-0 on the season against the Redbirds.
Statesville won the first meeting, 8-6, on June 8. Aubrey Meadows pitched three innings but got a no decision in his first start.
Meadows (UNC Pembroke) earned the win Monday. Making his second start, Meadows tossed 4 1/3 scoreless innings. He allowed only one hit and struck out five.
Klint Davis (UNC Asheville) took the loss. Davis surrendered six runs on five hits, four walks and a hit batsman in three innings of work.
The Owls scored three runs in the third inning, highlighted by a two-out, two-run single by Kyle Brandenburg (Guilford Tech C.C.). Brad Bridgeman drove in the other run that inning.
Statesville stretched its lead to 6-0 in the bottom of the fourth, when Davis had trouble finding the strike zone. Davis walked in a run and plated another run by hitting a batter after the Owls loaded the bases with no outs.
An error in the seventh allowed the Redbirds (6-6) to break up the shutout. Eric Renegar belted a solo home run in the top of the eighth to trim Asheville’s deficit to 6-2, but Statesville put the game away with two more insurance runs in the bottom half on RBIs by Weber and Tripper Crisson (Catawba Valley C.C.).
The Owls (5-6) are at the East Division-leading Lake Norman Copperheads on Wednesday. The Copperheads swept a doubleheader in the teams’ first meeting.
