This is a very good guideline. I would like to emphasize the part about getting out of the way and letting baseball people help your son advance. I coached my son up until age 12. He was very successful and our teams were very successful. But our first year of AAU travel ball, I started noticiing the very top teams were doing things that were beyond my ability to coach. My son was gungho about going as far as he could go. My ego and I had a meeting of the minds, and after that season, I helped him move to a full-time travel team with top-notch coaching. Over the next three years, his game lept ahead of the kids back home who weren't playing at that level. And his level of play was far higher than what it would have been if I had continued to coach. I will admit that it was a hard decision because I loved coaching him, but it was the right thing to do.

Baseballman, don't discount the fact that you had a son with a very high level of inner desire to succeed. A trait that we all hope is present in our own.
