girls have to have four things to participate in tryouts: physical, players contract (sportsmanship/grades/ethics agreement), parents contract, and be eligible grade and attendance wise.

You are right about life AIN'T Fair

Life is anyhting but fair!! And neither are sports!! Let's just face the truth sometimes no matter how hard you work, it doesn't beat out WHO YOU KNOW!!! Or WHAT YOU CAN PAY!!!! WHO'S BUTT GOT KISSED and anyone who says that isn't true, are the people's kids who succeed in everyway in HS sports! But do I think you should still teach your kids to ask more of themselves, than anyone could ask of them, YOU DANG SKIPPY I do! And be honest and realistic with your kids. Don't sugar-coat the world, let them know right up front the real picture then they won't expect for things to be easy. There are actually kids that work harder or just as hard, as the so called superstars on a team and still do not get noticed! Go to any HS anywhere and I bet you find players that would shine for my example! And parents that are disgusted with that fact! Let's face it, when it is your kid getting shafted it makes you mad! And when it isn't your kid getting shafted, you never even notice!!! When you aren't affected you don't care!!! Again if you are sitting there reading this and saying that just plain isn't true, do some research!!! You see real fast that it is!! And oh yeah, don't forget to teach your kid that there will always be somebody better than you or working their butts off to take your place!!! Because that is also true!:splat: And if you can't see reality, you know, without the rosy glasses, then why should your kid?:bouncer:

    Thank You

Thank you BRAVES! And I was sure everyone would jump on and tell me how wrong I was! I am very surprised! Most of the time when you say anything about reality, someone has to jump in and say that kinda stuff doesn't happen, when those of us living in the REAL world know it does! Oh well, I am glad you liked my reply! :bounce:

I appreciate anybodys post that you can tell they put a lot of thought into. For me it's not a question of who's right or who's wrong. Everybody brings their own experience to a discussion. I like the fact that we can disagree civilly and respect each other's opinion...whether we agree or not. But even if one's opinion is different than mine...I learn from them.

    Thanks Softball..keep on posting!!!

softballer, yes, i've experienced this myself when my dd was in middle school. but not every hs team is like this. in fact, this is the reason that i became a hs coach, to ensure fairness at this school. i'm not saying this school wasnt unfair before i came, i wouldnt know that. but we go to great lengths to bring the best talent to the field, and even greater lengths to train those who are behind. we try to give everyone their chance to suceed, and i'm in contact with about six other schools that try to achieve the same goals as we do. coaching is not a popularity contest, its our goal to teach, to train, to solidify a team, to teach sportmanship, to find bright spots in losses and to relish the feeling of acomplishment through winning and playing at your best level. i personally dont deal well with parents, but i dont turn my back on them either. we do not talk about playing time as a rule. but i will give a parent time after a practice or game. my players are a different story, i have a policy of open discussion at an appropriate time. we listen to all bitches, gripes, and suggestions from them and try to work them out for the benefit of the team. we have above average players on my team, but dont use the term "superstar". i have the privelidge to coach with two other people who share the same goals and this is rare, believe me. now, dont think that i'm jumping on your post, i enjoyed it and agreed with it. but not everyone is in that pot. giving credit where it is due, cfball taught me the most about coaching, i've adopted most of my style from him. the rest i've learned from my good friend Jay Houser and the kids who've played for me.

    OK, thanks

thanks for the info. ; at our school I think all they require to try out is a phys. exam.........all else that you named comes after tryouts when team is chosen. don't really know if they check grades for tryout eligibility???

but your system sounds like it covers all the bases, even with those that will be cut.

    24-hr. rule

in parent contract at our school, it states a minimum 24 hr's after a game that the parent must wait to talk to coach if they have a problem to discuss.
