How is your JV program perceived? Good training ground for varsity progression? Does the varsity coach use JV as a building block for future varsity success? Or just just go thru the motions and tolerate it, with the primary emphasis on Varsity? Do the JV players truly feel they are a part of something special?

I don't know how it is at other schools, but at South Caldwell our JV team is treated the same as the varsity, in fact they practice together, what is unusual for us is the record of each team.
The JV team has a record of 4 wins 0 losses, the varsity is exactly reversed, 0 wins and 4 losses
So yes the JV's are a very large part of our program, isn't it everwhere???

    JV needed

At North Buncombe, there has not been a JV since 2006. There has been enough interest, good pitching, enough kids, but the coach said there would be no JV, and many kids didn't try out once they knew this. Some good athletes have lost interest, and after another year or two, the program will be in trouble. There are two pitchers that never get to pitch (1 sophomore, 1 freshman), and they would be very competitive against the other local JV teams. Don't get me wrong, they are an asset to the varsity team with their hitting and fielding, but it must be frustrating to them to have trained as pitchers and not get to pitch. I don't necessarily think that all underclassmen should be on JV (our best hitter is a freshman, and she plays shortstop), but it would be nice to have the option for the girls who need a little more field time, and less spectator time from the dugout.

Just an opinion, I could be wrong

We work our JV and Varsity together, fielding and hitting groups are made up of both teams and JV is expected to preform at the same level as varsity.
at practice you cannot tell what player is in which group.

I think it would be beneficial for both squads to practice together, it challenges you to play up, afterall you play as good as you practice. Just a thought. God Bless
