I heard that the weather was a little nuisance a couple of times on Friday with the scheduled workouts which included the 60 yard dash, OF's throws, IF's throws, C's pop times and batting practice but that the games were played as scheduled on Saturday and Sunday.

Maybe Coach 44 who was honored with coaching one of the PG teams (don't know if it was the gold, red, royal, white, green, orange, navy team) could let us a report first hand on if any of our NC players were on his team and how they showed plus any other outstanding players that he might have had on his PG team or noticed on any other PG team this past weekend, if Coach 44 has the time and is able to comment on the PG event at UNC-Chapel Hill at this time.

As reported by http://www.worldwoodbat.com/ for Perfect Games.

A combination of good luck, a great facility and good management enabled the Perfect Game Southeast Top Prospect Showcase to finish all but 4 innings of the first day of action at the U North Carolina campus in Chapel Hill.

One player who might have frowned on the turf was OF Travis Moore (Greensboro, NC). The 5-6 speedster is regarded as one of the fastest players in the country, but his first step is so quick that he couldn’t get his shoes (no cleats on Astroturf) to grip at the start, finishing one aborted attempt on his chest five yards from the start. Moore ran a 6.80 despite another slip and atoned for his relatively slow 60 by running a 4.09 from the left side on the soggy stadium grass.

    The top 60 times:

OF Eric Chamness (West Chester, PA) 6.67
2B Jerrell Johnson (Shaker Heights, OH) 6.74
SS-RHP Tony Langford (Ft. Worth, TX) 6.77
C Nachion Moore (Chesapeake, VA) 6.78
Note: Moore might be the fastest catcher in the country.
OF Travis Moore (Greensboro, NC) 6.81
SS Austin Reilly (Aledo, TX) 6.81
2B Brett Rossi (Ringoes, NJ) 6.84
OF-RHP Jordan Ellis (Bryn Mawr, PA) 6.87
SS Matt Willard (Newtown, PA) 6.88
SS Brian Muldowney (West Chester, PA) 6.93
OF Wilson Boyd (Hickory, NC) 6.93

    Game Highlights:

RHP Zach Andrews (Hartselle, AL) was the talk of the first day of games. The 5-9, 140 lb Andrews, a 2005 graduate, obviously doesn’t fit the standard prospect mold. But four innings of hitters were basically helpless against his 80 mph sidearm fastball and 66 mph biting curveball from the same arm angle. Andrews live on the corners and completely froze most hitters with his unconventional delivery.

RHP Benjamin Hildreth (Forest, VA) fell along the more conventional prospect lines. 6-1 with a loose, quick arm, Hildreth topped out at 89 mph, pitched at 87 and showed some sharpness with his curveball. After his performance, he wandered in front of the Perfect Game scouts to get some ice for his shoulder and after accepting congratulations for his effort, he somewhat sheepishly asked “How hard did I throw”. When he was told 89, Hildreth immediately said, with a wide eyed look, “I can’t throw that hard!” But he did and dozens of college coaches saw it.

RHP Matt Payne (Hiddenite, NC), an athletic 6-2 pitcher, showed an impressive array of pitches that had scouts debating just what each was. Payne’s curveball was a true downer at around 70 mph, sometimes appearing to break into a right handed hitter rather than just straight down. It was a nasty pitch to catch, let alone to try and hit. Payne touched 87 mph with his 4-seam fastball and threw a 2-seamer at 81 mph that had excellent running action.

****3B Kyle Shelton (Charlotte, NC)**** and SS Matt Willard (Newtown, PA) were the defensive stars. With wood bats and good pitchers, there were plenty of ground balls to handle. Shelton was all over the place, charging rollers and making a great dive and throw from deep down the line. Willard showed nice arm strength and soft hands at shortstop.

Hits were in very short supply. C Chris Kirkland (Knoxville, TN), C Nathan Toth (Bedford, NH) and 1B-OF Steve Bralver (Westlake Village, CA) get special mention for slamming doubles over outfielders heads.

    The top gun times included:

RHP Chris Kirkland (Knoxville, TN) 89 mph
RHP Ben Hildreth (Forest, VA) 89 mph
RHP James “Bubba” O’Donnell (Millville, NJ) 88 mph
RHP Edward Anderson (Bradenton, FL) 88 mph
RHP Brett Hontz (Newtown Center, PA) 88 mph
RHP Jordan Ellis (Bryn Mawr, PA) 88 mph
LHP Blake Martin (Boaz, AL) 87 mph
RHP Matt Payne (Hiddenite, NC) 87 mph
