The PG National Underclass Showcase takes place in Ft. Myers over the holidays. Does anyone know anything about this event? My son is a freshman and just received an invitation from PG to attend. Is it worthwhile at his age? I would welcome any feedback. Thanks!

Have you been to their website? Look at the profiles. It will give you an idea. If you think he is ready to showcase his skills. My son did two this year. May do one next year. He is an 08. We liked the event very well ran. It will give you a measure. Look at the other events and were they are. They may work for you better as far as travel cost.

    In my opinion
Freshman year too young; Soph year maybe if he is physically mature and a stud; Junior year go for it if he is an above avg player

    PG National Showcase

This is not a pay and come showcase. It is by invitation only. The players picked are the ones that have attended a previous PG showcase and were ranked very high or are players scouts have recommended. My son went last year and it was outstanding. The talent there was great. They start off by running the 60, then the catchers do pop times. After that they split them up by team and they play games. After the games two top prospect teams are announced and they play each other. Last year they took the top 40 players. There were around 600 at the event. The top players from this event will be invited to the National event which this year was held at Cinn Ohio. At this event there was over 400 college coaches and at least 200 professional scouts. I would highly recommend going if you get invited.

    Too Young?

Being too young is no big deal. The scouts will know his grad year and it will give him a chance to get used to the "nerves" that go with it. That way a year or two from now he'll be an Old Veteran down there and be ready to show his stuff!

It will also make them come again. Look at some of the profiles. Some of these kids have done a few and it was over a coulpe of years. You can see how they have gotten better or stayed the same.

My understanding is that invitations to PG National Underclass are sent in the mail to prospects known to PG, but I believe you can request an invite on the PG website (www.perfectgame.org) for this showcase. If accepted, you will receive a mailed invitation.

This is different from the PG National Showcase in the summer (i.e., the one in Cincinnati this past June). Those are invitation only and you cannot request an invite.

Coach 27, correct me if I'm wrong.

You got it right. You can request an invitation to the underclass national event. If anyone would like a reference pm me with some information on the player I would glad to help you get in.
