I understand, but I can't help but believe that money will still be on the table for this young man. He's obviously very talented and I'm sure he will get even better. Who knows, with your talented son, you may face a similar decision soon.

    A few items

This is the average make up of an mlb roster. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/stats/rosters

I have found mention of the age to play in the bigs is 18. Although, you could play in the minors at 16. With that you would still need to be 18 to sign a legal contract. But, your parents could sign for you acting as an agent of a minor. You can tryout at 16.

    Landon Powell on Bryce Harper

    Raleigh N&O article http://www.newsobserver.com/sports/story/1579739.html
about what former Apex HS star Landon Powell (now Oakland A's) thinks about a 16 year kid going pro. Good reading - alot of similarities.

It also relates the well known (in Raleigh area) story of Powell's attempt to bypass the MLB draft - with the advice of Scott Boras no less - and how he regrets that decision.

Harper is playing this week at the USA Baseball's Tournament of Stars in Cary.
