    agree, agree...

I heard this being discussed on the baseball channel on XM radio and thought about it like you guys here. But then I started thinking (always a bad thing) and it started to make a little sense.

The number one sport in India after kickball and elephant racing is cricket. Cricket is played with a weird bat and a ball. The pitcher, or what ever he's called, has to aim at those three sticks when he throws and they're a lot smaller than a regulation plate (home plate not eatin' plate). So the boy should have some control. Now considering that weird bat, that's kinda flat on two sides, you know the pitcher has to be a pretty tough dude, cause you know he gets some lasers back through the box. These cricket matches can go on for two or three days and I bet none of these cats have ever heard of a pitch count!

Therefor the Pirates signing these "pitchers" is logical... they can throw a bunch of innings, they can throw with reasonable accuracy so as to not wear out their catchers (whom they may need to trade for cash later) chasing wild pitches and, most importantly, they will be able to dodge all those shots from guys like Pujols, Howard and Manny.

    okay, I'll stop thinkin' now

They throw the ball in the dirt and they also get to run for like 30 feet before throwing the ball, can't do that so much on the mound.

    see...

... they know how to keep the ball low!

I do wonder if there is enough room on their jerseys for their names, those dudes have some whoppers... maybe they'll be like Ichiro and just go by first names... "Now pitching for the Pirates, HADJI!!!... if he can get the ball from Bandit!"

Where's Johnny Quest when you need him!

Things is the movements they use to throw the ball is so much differant. Where they are use to throwing the ball for an out is a ball in baseball.

I think linking the rise of latin players in the professional game with steroids is the stupidest thing I have ever heard in my entire life. When I played minor league baseball there were six players on the team who were openly doing steroids, including my roommate my first season who I watched give himself a shot on several occasions. The latin players were dead broke and sent every dollar they could home to family back whereever. They wouldn't have had enough money to buy protein meal replacements. You are an ignorant man for even thinking that and even more ignorant for posting that.

I wonder do the rules in Criket say you have to take a running start and let it lose before you cross the line. Or can you stand at the line and throw it at the wickets. If so we got a lot of kids right here in the USA that could more than compete in Criket.

The Pirates could find talent a lot cheaper than using a contest.

    duh
