hey guys- Is it sorta understood a pitcher cant make a fielding error?

How about a high pop fly that hits him in the glove and he drops it? Hit or error. I understand giving a hit on a liner back thet the pitcher is sorta defenseless. but this-I say Error

Pitchers get charged with errors just like everyone else. The same criteria for any fielder applies to a pitcher too.

MOST ERRORS BY PITCHERS ARE ON BAD THROWS.....

    Y

They give golden glove award to the pitcher position, so they must give "E" 's 'for a miscue. Doncha think?

Sorta understood a pitcher can't make a fielding error!
I NEVER heard that one before.
So if the pitcher drops a pop up, what do you do, give the batter a hit? The pitcher makes a routine play on a ground ball and then throws it into the stands............... what then?
Maybe I really don't understand your question?

There is no place for "sorta understood" deviation from proper scoring...that is why we have so many .685 hitters. I overheard an official scorer tell a talented player after the game that "I gave you a hit on the little dinker, even though I shouldn't have...thought I would help you out" The player gave him a look of thanks. I guess it was "sorta understood" that any thing that could scrape by for a hit is a hit, even it requires the scorer to abdicate his job.

I think what he is saying is this: "pitchers don't make errors. They are the best athletes on the field."...or something like that

Even in the Majors they don't score properly

This week I saw a ground ball by Carl Crawford to SS get bobbled and the throw was not made to first base. Home scorer gave it a base hit cause it was hit hard and Carl needed some help to get out of his new team slump. Total dogmess!!!!

    pitcher/errors

let me try and make it more clear.

A scorer told me that he doesnt give pitchers errors. I saw a pitcher clearly stand under the ball and drop it. The kid was issued a hit. I do a book for fun and compare to the stats posted online-so I questioned him on this. I think this its totally wrong. I agree with another posting that thats why we have so many .685 hitters. Pitchers can field and throw someone out-Correct- They have a glove- they can make and be charged with errors.
