Ummm....far be it from me to be the voice of reason...but if i remember correctly the conference, district, and state awards all have a Player of the Year, and a Pitcher of the year, w/ only a rare circumstance dictating someone wins both???
Sorry Guru, seems a pointless thread to me
    Can't win w/o runs
Can't win w/o stopping the other team from scoring
    TEAMS take wins
    TEAMS take losses

Just a couple of points based on my experience......
Pitchers are a unique bunch. They may seem to get a lot of credit for success, but the ones who are team minded take ALL the blame for the losses. I have seen a pitcher blamed for a loss because of one pitch. It is far and away the most scruntinized, most difficult, emotionally charged, mentally challenging position on the field. Can they do it alone....absolutely NOT. However, when they step out there all eyes are on them and their team counts on them to be a leader. The circle is the starting point for everything that happens on the field.

As for the work part.....generally...not always... pitchers are very dedicated to the game. They are willing to work because they love the game and this in turn helps to promote success. In my experience the pitchers I have had the opportunity to see develop don't neglect other aspects of their game. They work on the glove and bat with the same dedication as pitching.

I been on the pitching rollercoaster ride for awhile and I speak only from my experience, but it is clear to me there is a distinction to being in the circle. However, it is still team and when the team concept is lost in the circle it is lost from the entire field.

    :blahblah1::blahblah1::blahblah1:K...done now.

    that would be cool...

...at last years 1a western regional championship, i believe between east surry and swain county, east surry pitcher struck out 28 batters and the swain pitcher struck out 23 batters in a 14 inning game; outcome decided when swain pitcher drove in run in bottom of 14th to win 1-0.

not quite the scenario but still pretty cool!

    This is really easy

Spend any time around the college game and you'll have your answer. Pitching is at least 70% of the game. Or put another way, at least 70% of the time the team with the best pitcher wins regardless of the team around her. A couple of examples . . . look at Va Tech during the Tincher era and now. VT never had more than an average everyday lineup but one player allowed them to go to the WCWS. Look at the difference in USC Upstate when MC is in the circle and when she's not . . . far different results. Look at which team is currently leading the ACC due to the addition of a FR pitcher. I could almost endless examples where a pitcher graduates or a freshmen pitcher comes into teams that, otherwise are little changed, records change dramatically.

Personally, I think our game is too much about individual pitchers. Things would change dramatically if the NCAA simply enacted a rule that no pitcher could appear in consecutive games. This would force teams to actually develop pitching staffs (you would need four pitchers who could actually throw innings). Until then (and it will never happen) all the parents of position players should just accept the fact that it's called fastpitch for a reason :)

    at night, hitter's delight.....
red sun at dawn...pitchers take warn....

Had to help you out Cheeze....

There has been allot of comments about how individual players effect or control the outcome of games....

...while stats and the press tend to focus on individual efforts, success has to come from team efforts..... If you win a championship, everyone gets a ring...

Also, it's not the quantity of the pitches or swings you take each week, that will make you better...
    ...it's the quality

My DD is a college pitcher, and I can tell you that she never takes for granted her fielders. She has pitched for teams that have awesome defense and offense and has pitched for teams that can't judge where to go to catch a routine fly ball or bend over to field a grounder.

She will be the first one to tell you that the perfect games she pitched in were not her perfect games; they were the team's perfect games.

She was also a catcher until this year, and she considered it one of the highest honors when her pitcher received an award. This meant that she (and her team) also played well.

I think of it like my job. My job is to make my boss look good. If my boss gets complimented for work I performed or contributed to, then I too can feel good about what I did.

    Pitchers

Article posted yesterday shows the pitcher does get credit, stated as a "pitchers duel". 5 hits the whole game makes me agree with it. Lauren Taylor did pitch a great game but, her teamates great defense made the difference. "Lana Mackey took the loss..." giving up 1 hit. It went yard.
I will agree it takes a team to play this game. Its kinda like the movies, one star may get the oscar but the supporting cast made them look good.

Just my 2 cents on this.
A good pitcher does not need a good catcher to look good.
Few wild pitches and balls not to the glove. A good catcher
can make a so so pitcher look good.
    Just my 2 cents
