I would hate to try to coach the pitcher that felt that way. Cause she probably feels that way about everybody in the field.....and in the dugout.
    Just my 2 cents.

i really cant agree with that statement either. a good pitcher becomes great with a good catcher. every pitcher makes mistakes on a regular basis. a ball dug out of the dirt, a slip that went high or way outside can be collared by a good catcher with no damage done....

    Hmmmmmm

Well, I thoroughly disagree on this...many GREAT players never try out for State Games. I can name at least 6 players that ya'll would agree are some of the top players in this state that are among those GREAT players that have never tried out, nor have plans to ever try out. And, watching the last couple of years, I have seen some that are definitely NOT the great players play because of who is coaching.

Just like any venue in which players are displayed, you will get only a small part of the cream of the crop interested in participating, and will have those that make the cut for reasons other than being top notch.

    That said....

Pitchers are not always named POY or even team MVP.

Just like State Games not always getting the cream of the crop, this is not an absolute.

It again, all comes down to those making the decisions with whatever biases they come to the table with.

I have seen pitchers deserving of POY or MVP recognition not get it....

I have seen infielders with the best FA on the team not get recognized in favor of a player that plays a "harder" position with a substantially lower FA....

I have seen catchers receive Defensive MVP recognitions for simply catching a ball like they are supposed to, with no stunning plays...

And I have seen pitchers that were the backbone of their team - bat and pitching arm - recognized....

Just like those polls we talked about earlier - it is all about who has that vote ... which does not always mean the right vote was made :)

A player that strives to be the best would be my answer here.

Many NON-pitchers put in batting cage time 3-5 times a week, take balls in their yards to work on their fielding, attend speed and agility classes on "off time", go to camps during the summers and winters, attend individual showcases, work with batting instructors.

A player, pitcher or not, that wants to be the best, puts in the time. Period.

Not to mention the fact that a pitcher who lives on the corners will get as many called strikes from a skilled catcher as actual plate calls. Seen it too many times and at too many levels. A catcher makes or breaks a pitcher.

Agreed...the only difference is that there are kids who do all of the above and then throw for an hour and half.....they would be pitchers.
