when I used to sell sports equipment to the kids that would come in, I had one coach stop in and explained to me that the pitching motion that the women's softball team uses is the natural throwing motion of the human arm, and that a pitchers arm really doesn't wear down in a game, and that there are less injuries to pitchers....anyone else hear this?

It's true. The softball delivery is much less stressful than a baseball delivery. When was the last time you heard of a HS baseball pitcher (except for Streater) who could pitch as much as a softball pitcher without his arm falling off. Streater either threw underhanded or threw 42 mph????? I have NO IDEA how a guy could throw that much in one season. He must have been a knuckleballer... they throw so slow there isn't much stress.

NC State Record for wins in one season: 23 - Steve Streater (Sylva-Webster), 1977 (23-1)

The next best guy in state history in number of wins is at 14.

Crystal Cox (Central Cabarrus) has three consecutive seasons with 27, 29 & 30 wins. Ain't no way that's going to happen overhanded. Her record for innings in 1 season....230, Streater topped out at 165.....

Ha Ha.... now, if I ever got to see a game.........but alas, I'm always at the baseball field when they are playing..... perhaps when my son graduates.

Its quite a game, they pitch from 40 feet and at 60 mph it takes about .43 seconds or less to reach the plate. A HS Baseball game takes about 2 1/2 hours or more to play. The same seven innings in fastpitch is about 1 1/2 hours The only reason that I can think of that makes the girls game shorter is that they don't scratch :D
