I know we have already had this thread, but I was just wondering (in general) who would get the nod to play. Let's say you have a team( travel, school, or made up) and the coach during tryouts tells one or more players they are on the team and do not have to attend practice. Then at game time, they are put where they want to play no matter who has been there day in and day out. I am not talking about skill vs skill, only what is right and wrong. This may not even be a very competitive team. ****Not pointing fingers anywhere, just asking the public*****

I have always thought that playing time is earned on the practice field. There are those that say play your best nine. If it were me, I'd make sure my best nine were at practice unless of course there was a very good reason for them not to be. Just my opinion.

    Play if you practice!

If you don't practice you don't play! And they sure should not walk in and take the place of someone who was at practice!
If this is a school team go straight to the AD!
If this is a TB team, ask for refund and find team with good, fair coach!
Any coach, worth a grain of salt, would never tell a player that!
Why should a player even bother to show up for practice, if they are told they don't have to!
On second thought, maybe the coach is suicidal! Because I have seen many parents that would mob a coach for such behavior! It would be UGLY!!

There's a travel ball team wanting my daughter to play this summer, but I told one parent that she's too busy right now to make any practices until middle of April or so. The parent said, "ah she'd still start". I more or less told her that I didn't think that would be very fair.

I just wouldn't feel good about it that my daughter wouldn't go to hardly any practices, then get to start over another girl, I just can't let it happen. I guess she'll just sit out this summer, pretty sure most teams are set by the middle of April.

    ACTUALLY !!!

Actually unless due to an injured player /s most teams are set by January or early February for the Summer play....YES, there are exceptions to the rule, but generally most rosters are full in the early part of the year...:1:..now if a stud comes along your better known Organizations would probably make room for that player/s....:25:

    YES & NO----WANT HAPPEN

The ethical thing to do is what you say,but the logical thing to do is to put the best nine on the field...I do agree that everyone should come to practice, but you are not going to let a stud ball player go because of practice..That's the politics of mankind...if a parent knows that his or her kid is keeping the team winning, because of her skills then she has leverage to do as she pleases...NOT saying it is right...but you get caught between a rock and hard place as a coach in your decisions, and if the coaches that read this is thread are HONEST they will tell you the same answer...JMO....GURU:thinking2:
