Are you talking high school? I do not know any coaches in high school that would let players miss practice and continue to start. If there are coaches like that they should find another job. Discipline is a big part of this game and life.

My comment was mostly to TB, but it does exist in HS

I recruited a kid three years ago... was named all state at the 4A level....
she never played an inning at the collegiate level because she didn't want to practice. HS coach never made her go.

I feel different about TB. It is very hard to get all the girls to every practice in TB. I would not hold it against TB player her missed a practice every now and then.

it doesnt happen at our HS.. my two missed practice for a "non-excused" absence and had to sit a critical conference game last week that we lost. The rules are the rules and even though I am an assistant they sat down.

    my 2 cents

I also coach high school, middle school, and club wrestling in Catawba county. I know that the two sports are different, but I would like to share a story from this past season. I had a young man who was being looked at by a couple schools for his accomplishments. We planned to recognize him one night by having "media" night against one of our rivals. This kid won over 100 matches and set new school records in the beginning of the season. The day before the match, he decided not to come to practice and came in the next day 1 lb. overweight. He asked if he could bump up a weight class to get an easy win since his picture would be in the paper. I said NO, he didn't dress for the match, and we lost the meet because of his weight class could have made a difference. Long story a little shorter- The whole team suffered because he didn't come to practice!

***The Craze 14u folded because we did not have the commitment to practice! ********:banghead:

    sorry guru

i got to agree with wildman, super star or not, practice or dont play period. you have to have ethics, dedication and a standard policy. if you start looking the other way for any one player, the rest will follow her lead. cant have that. hs ball is all about school spirit and stuff like that. winning is an important aspect to follow, but molding a team with memories that will last a lifetime seems to be more important to me. we constantly emphasize that you win as a team and lose as a team and practice as a team. jmho

You remember before you had kids,I bet you said just like me when you saw a kid doing something you didn't approve of...." My Kids Will NEVER Do That"..HMMMMMMMMMMMM...boy have I've eaten those words...I'm just a realist, and I know if you or anybody else were in a playoff, and a kid was unrully you wouldn't sit one of your stud ballplayers because of their actions....C'mon Cheeze i LOVe you man,but you are a human being and coaches have a quota to meet or "OUT THE DOOR " !!!! I'm not saying it is right, but when the wheel meets the pavement we all bend a little...GURU

of course, i dont think that any coach can say they dont make some form of an exception. i dont have any super studs on my team, and never had. unlike some schools, we arent driven to beat everyone, winning is nice, not being last would be nice, but having a team with no discent, favortism or just plain bs is a goal we're trying to meet. (almost impossible). i'm here to teach the game of softball, basics, help someone make a better ball player out of themselves, thats why i took on the jv team, pure training. my rules are straightforward, known by all before the season and if broken, you're gone (two gone so far). having a part time player hurts everyone else. have i made exceptions??? yes, i let one player come back on the team after she quit, why? because she quit the team because of grades, pulled them up and wanted to come back. seemed like a good reason both ways. (she's not close to being a starter, just a good kid trying to learn)
