.....many years ago, my HS football coach and I were playing one on one basketball in the gym. i knew i could go around him or pull up for an easy 10 foot shot....well, I wanted coach to like me ( playing time ) ...anyway, Coach Bishop Harris ( google the name ) told me that no matter who or when you play...play to win, period!

I beleive in teaching kids to practice to their best and then win or lose, they can look themselves in the mirror and know that they did all that they could do.

BTW, Coach Harris waxed my butt with todays 3 pointers and when I'd try to come out to guard against them, he'd headfake and go around me like nobodys business.

I learned 2 things that day:

    1. play to win.

    2. your elders are bad to the bone and aint OLD yet!

Good to see that one of the most successful softball coaches of all time sees what some of us here do. Playing just to be seen is not good for our sport, period. Two of the wprst things I see at the showcase tournaments is games ending in a tie, Are you kidding me this aint soccer. And every year we hear of a showcase where the two teams that reach the final decide not to play the championship but rather be "co-champions" because the girls where hot and tired which is an excuse for the coaches not to have to stay out in the heat any longer. Thanks to coach Candrea for bring this out. mnaybe some of our local coaches will read this and change their approach to coaching our girls to play to win for the team first and finish what you start, NEVER quit
