They are really playing fundamental baseball right now. It was awesome! It was bottom of the 7th, 2-1 Ragsdale. Piedmont had 2 outs and a guy on second. The #9 hitter (who is one heck of a 9 hitter and would be much higher up for most teams) had a 0-2 count. Basically, Ragsdale was one strike away from a win and he ripped a single scoring the guy on 2nd. Foard pitched all 8 innings and got Ragsdale out in the top of the 8th and then Race got on and Brooks drove him in for the win. Clutch hitting and awesome pitching for Piedmont (as well as flawless D).

good defense can take a team deep into the playoffs....of course, the 28 runs you guys put on the board in the first 2 rounds doesn't hurt either :D

congratulations and good luck against ashbrook friday

    thanks for the details wolfpac.

My Ragsdale boys have been snakebit the last couple of years. They have had awesome football and baseball teams but haven't been able to get over the hump.

I had planned to make the trip down there tonight. Looks like I missed a great game but that would have been a long ride back. Do you know who pitched for Ragsdale?

and - good luck against Ashbrook Friday

    Ashbrook 1
    Tuscola 0

WOW! What a game. From the outset it was a classic pitcher's dual. Senior Eryk McConnell on the bump for Tuscola and junior Wes McCall on the mound for Ashbrook.

Highlights of the game were defensive gems until the bottom of the 7th. In the fifth inning Ashbrook threw out two runners at the plate. Well, one actuallly was not a putout. The Tuscola runner was on second and tried to score from 2nd. Drew Martin took the relay from Sammy Asis and threw the ball to Steve Klenovic at home. The throw was to the infield side of home, but Klenovic had enough of his leg blocking the plate that the runner had to side around him. The ump made no call and he watched for the runner to touch home or for Klenovic to make the tag. The runner jumped up and started toward the Tuscola bench where he was met by his teammates. As soon as the first two players jumped on the runner the ump immediately called the runner out.

The player who had gotten the hit moved to 2nd on the throw home. The next batter hit another single, this time to left field. Clay Gibson scooped up the ball on the run and threw a dead strike to home to cut down the 2nd runner in the inning at the plate. Ashbrook was stoked!

Now for the 7th inning. McCall had scattered 5 hits and allowed 0 runs thaks to his defense. BUT Eryk McConnell had thrown a PERFECT GAME through 6. In bottom of the 7th, Sammy Asis led off with a deep fly ball to centerfield. Klenovic came up next, bunted the ball down the 3rd baseline and beat out the throw to 1st. End of perfect game. Next up, Drew Martin laced a single to centerfield. Runners at 1st and 2nd, 1 out, bringing McCall to the plate. With the count 2-2, McCall swings at a fastball down the gut - and strikes out. 2 down. Then comes Michael Bogaert to the plate. After a couple of pitches, McConnell throws a fastball on the outside part of the plate. Bogaert slices a soft linner into right field, Klenovic rounds 3rd and scores from 2nd. Ballgame over!!

For the 2nd consecutive game, Ashbrook has come into the bottom of the 7th needing a run to win and Bogaert has driven in Klenovic twice. Talk about clutch!

I also can't say enough about the Tuscola players and fans. Nothing but class!! It really was a game you hated to see either team lose. Both pitchers had thrown their hearts out, neither team had an error. 8 total hits in the game. WOW!

Next up Piedmont. I hope the GreenWave have it in them one more time to pull the upset victory.

    Re: info please

I'd love to give you a scouting report on Wilson for you Vike, but I'm afraid that if I posted that on the board, the " Greenies" would come picket my house.

But let me say this. There are pitchers faster than Wilson...there are pitchers with a better breaking ball...but there are no pitchers smarter than Wilson. He knows how to mix his pitches and forces batters to hit his pitch.
