Hey Metro, the Charlotte coaching staff have for all practical purposes ignored referrals from scouts, high school coaches, and even former major leaguers like yourself, on local recruits in the past. Why should they start listening now? The program out there is in bad shape. As a Charlotte alumnus, I thought Hibbs would continue to grow the program when he took over, but instead it's gone south. Last week, I saw him at a college summer league game. Does he spend his time recruiting players from other colleges? Wouldn't his time be better spent recruiting high school players at a Legion or AAU game?

    Papa,
I am here trying to be a resource and conduit, that is all. I want to see as many kids possible get a chance somewhere, even if they cant' play big time college ball. There are only 31 spots on a college roster. It is easy for alot of coaches and parents to get upset that more locals aren't recruited. Historically, about 25% of the roster is Charlotte kids. They have 4 locals signed for this coming year (metro area kids). As I said in another post, I think, IMO, that alot of the local coaches have steered kids to the ACC instead of UNCC, and it forced UNCC to set up pipelines in places like VA, and Maryland (same thing with hoops is happening). I am not deverting blame, but this has happened. also take into account that there may be a good player at your school, but UNCC may not need help there or the kid wants too much money. For the record, UNCC is allowed 11 scholarships for 31 players.

You have no idea why Hibbs was at that game. Maybe one of them wants to transfer to UNCC and he was checking them, or one of his own was there. I think you are being a little unfair about that. There are 3 coaches that are out recruiting and they can't be everywhere at once. Remember the college season is also during the high schools.

It is not too late for good things to happen. My purpose for even starting to post in this forum is to help the whole situation. Rest assured, every name given to me so far is in their email boxes. If these kids are legit, they will be followed up on. I have a feeling most of them if they are good have recieved letters from UNCC. I think it's time some kids stayed home to play big time college ball and not use UNCC as a second choice.

    ;)

Metro, what you're doing is both admirable and appreciated. Hopefully you will assist some local kid in getting a college scholie. I can only tell you about one recent young man. Last year a young pitcher from Kannapolis (15 minutes up the road) wanted "dearly" to stay home and pitch for UNCC. Yet he was never taken seriously by the UNCC coaches for some reason. This kid ended up going to Gardner-Webb where he had a VERY successful freshman season(5-1) this past spring and he continues to improve even more. This kid is clocked consistently between 91-96. He is currently pitching(3-0 plus 2 saves) for his local legion team (Kann) because he wanted to play one "final" summer with his childhood buddies, despite many who wanted him to be pitching at a higher level this summer. Come watch him pitch one night at a legion game if you don't believe me. His name: Zach Ward. (I have a feeling Coach Hibbs will remember that name a long time as a local boy that he MISSED)

***I'm not throwing "this" up to your face,,, just trying to show you that the UNCC coaches are NOT as willing to look at local talent as you are. Keep up the good work, and again hopefully you will help a local boy...

Metro, one final thing,,,, because I don't want to just criticize the UNCC coaches without giving you something positive. If you have any "pull" at all with Coach Hibbs and don't want him to miss any other local blue chippers, I can tell you to look twice at the local names that you were given. West Rowan players Patrick Adams(all-state pitcher), Seth Waller(3b), Ryan Wilson(c) and Bryan Graham(ss) are worth watching very closely.

And btw, I am "not" a West Rowan fan, but these boys are all rising HS seniors and simply good. I could also throw in a name (Brett Bartles-ss) from Kannapolis who's playing in the junior state games, but I don't want you to think I'm being biased. These guys will all play college baseball somewhere. Get'em if you can.
