Please Vote for Landon Powell

Landon Powell is the backup catcher for the Oakland Athletics. He played his little league ball at West Raleigh Little League, played for Apex High School, and then for the University of South Carolina. He has also played on many elite teams including Team USA.

I was asked to ask for your help in getting him nominated to a very prestigious honorary team.

Landon was recently selected to be nominated for the College World Series Legends Team. This is the final year that the CWS will be played at the famed Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha and they are honoring the players and coaches that had the best performances solely at the CWS. Landon is one of 8 catchers nominated. Considering there have been 8 teams each year for 60 years this nomination is quite an honor in itself. Landon is the only player from the University of South Carolina to be nominated. He started at catcher every game the Gamecocks played in the CWS from 2002 thru 2004. They finished 2nd in 2002, losing to Texas in the final year of having a single game determine the national champions. The next year they finished 5th and his senior year they lost to eventual national champions Cal St Fullerton in the bracket championship game. They were the only team to beat Fullerton and lost to them in two very close games. Landon was named to the All-CWS team in 2002 and in 2004. He batted over .400 in the CWS and collected 15 RBI's in the 14 games he played. He also set the CWS record for walks in 2004 with 8 (Fullerton would not pitch to him) He reached base over 60% of the time during his CWS at bats.

Selection will be done by On-Line Fan Voting. Voting began March 11th and closes at noon on April 16. Below is a LINK to the voting page. At the button of the page select the "Catcher" category and check the box for Landon and one other person on the list of 8. You must vote for 2 players. Then press the Vote button. It says each fan can vote only once but you can vote from every computer you have and every computer you can find. You could also forward this to your friends and ask them to vote.
