    Batters Box

Had a similar thing happen in Bessemer City Tuesday. The JV game played first and the batters box was gone by varsity game time. The ump warned one of our girls about being out of the box. He laid a 31" bat at the back corner and drew a line. "Here is where the line is supposed to be" he stated. An inning later he called our lead off slapper out, for being out of the box. After that our two slappers had to hit from a normal stance. Tried to show him the rule book, but he would not bend. These girls work too hard and should not have the game officiated by umps with no FP knowledge.

    and it goes on.....

last night during the pregame equipment inspection, ump pulled our two 2004 black rockettechs out and said they were illegal because they didnt have the ASA stamp. we showed her the amature softball association stamp dated 2000 on the bat and she stated it wasnt the same thing as the ASA??????? i rolled my eyes, looked at the other coach and put the bats back in the bag, wasnt worth arguing as she was gonna be behind the plate. LACK OF EDUCATION.......................

    Umps

BC was using a Lady Virus, I thought they were illegal. I don't really care, (my DD would like to use her Combat) but does anyone know what's legal? Or do the rules depend on who is calling that nights game?

Same purple and yellow lady virus tuesday night. The Lady Virus is not legal in ASA, but I think it is in NSA, not sure. I guess my point is, all umps should at least have a solid understanding of the nuances of FP. The size of the batters box, a list in hand of what equipment is legal, why check if you don't know? And yes cheeze they should know who and what ASA is...lol

    Good Umps

Had an Ump crew on 4-10 work my game at Franklinton. They were outstanding !! Very professional and personable. Their mechanics were so good you almost didn't know they were on the field. Niether one was afraid to ask for help from the other. Their communication with each other and the coaches was a joy to see. I'm not sure which Association Franklinton uses, but if anyone on here does, let me know because I would love to contact their Booking Agent and let the BA know what a great job Mr. Ross and Mr. Jones did. If I'm not supposed to mention their names, I'm sorry but they deserve for people to know who they are.

i think every great umpiring crew should get credit as they are the minority and mentioning their names is great. despite all the complains in our area, there are two or three really good umpires, consistent and out for the girls, not fame or money.

as far as the illegal combat, we've started carrying the banned list and even started carrying the changes made this year to prove our points to the umps before the game starts.....wont work during the game....

I was asked to ump a basketball game once, and gained a life long respect for the job umps do. The problem I'm seeing is from game to game the rules are interpreted differently - in particular the interfernce calls.
