    location question

My son lives in Cornelius, but attends high school in Charlotte and plays baseball for his school team in Charlotte. If he were to tryout for an American Legion team, where would it be? If he attended school near home, his school would have been Hopewell....

Even though he goes to a Charlotte HS, he is required to play legion ball for the nearest Legion Post to his legal address. However, if this is Huntersville Legion, Coach Smith and Post 321 would have to carry the enrollment of his HS that he attends. With three 4A schools( I am assumeing) on Post 321's drawing card, this could be tricky since there is a 5,000 student cap, grads 10-12 are counted. I do not know for sure who Huntersville list as schools to draw from. This can change year to year as can the base school. If Huntersville can not carry enrollment, he may be allowed to go to the next closest Post. He may still be required to obtain a release from 321, not sure.

LegionMan's response is right on, your son should check with the Huntersville Legion team.

The coach for Post 321 is Coach Smith who was the coach last year. The schools that they pulled from last year were Hopewell, North Meck., Mallard Creek and South Lake. I know that they are probably getting close to the 5000 mark with just those schools and now Hough might be included which should push them to the max.
