    Both look good to me.....

...1. it appears that the runners path is straight down the baseline and the catcher is allowing her ample room to get to the plate.
    2. it appears that the runneres path is coming from outside in..ie, kid might have rounded 3rd and come home.

I definitely like the slide in 2 better than in 1, in these pictures.

Hard to tell. Can't see where catcher was in #1 was before she had the ball. With the ball, I don't see anything wrong with her placement.

I agree, the slide in #2 seems more appropriate.

    Ohhhhh, I get it now!....

....what you want us to pick up on is the runners front leg in what appears to be an aggressive slide. Well, .....I gotta say that it don't look good, sliding wise.

this thread originated from a collision that was interpretated as unsportsmanlike...and I was not there,...and maybe there was some unsportsmanship.

But this thread is about technique...

so, in #1 the slide is out of control.
in #2 the slide is in control.

in both #1 and #2 the catchers look like they are giving the runner a chance at the plate....as in NOT BLOCKING!

PM me folks, I've watched this obstruction issue for 5 years now. I'll tell you all that has been told to me. I'm only as correct as the umps interpretation....and 5 years ago to today, I've seen and learned many different variations of this call. Marlin.

Go to "search" in the blue tool bar....

....enter "obstruction", go down to a thread "when is it obstruction" by Guru. The date to the right is 03-18-08. I think this thread will clear up alot of questions....BTW, very good ?s from the younger group coming up to the 18ish level. Maybe Cheeze or Comet look it over and "bump" it back for clarification sake. Hope this helps. Fish.

Obviously #2 is the better slide but to be fair to the runner in #1 we don't know if the catcher has the ball (it doesn't look as though she has it) and by looking at this picture we don't know where the ball is.

Actually, I just noticed the location of left foot on the runner in #1. I'm likely to have a problem with that if I'm the guy in the blue shirt, because the only reason I can see for that (other than just poor training on how to slide properly) is an attempt to take-out the catcher by cleating her in the knee.

Maybe it looks different from his angle.

Based on the appearance of the movement of her hands and the turn of her head to the runner (pony tail out) I think she probably has made the catch and is moving to tag.......... or she is a good actor.

My reservation with #1 photo is the high left foot. Seems to be an invitation to a problem.
