    ..and I wonder what snot slinging would occur if the runner went back feet first and injured the 1B.

    Probably not. However, the umpire must see that the actions by the defender, while not in possession of the ball, made the runner change her route to the base or not be able to reach the base.

    Blocking the base with the ball is certainly legal. Blocking the base without the ball is not illegal per se. Keeping the runner from gaining access to the base, or making them go around you to get to the base while you don't have the ball, is illegal.

    Change-Up do you think Mendoza just had poor training on how to slide properly or was she being unsportsmanlike? It MUST be one or the other.:biggrin:

    I think the catcher was thinking... "come on,, ,you're still out!" AWESOME PHOTOS!!!
    Would love to see the replay. That's how baseball is played. Almost every game night there is a MLB play just like this. These women are not in high school, they are playing at the highest level a softball player can go. That was a run or NOT.
    Great job on sharing these pictures.

    Exactly. A player that plays at 100% sometimes just tries to get to the plate the best way she can think of in that split second. It is not really fair to the player to pick a picture of one slide to death trying to claim that either she is unsportsmanlike or don't know how to slide. I have a newsflash for you gentlemen sometimes it is neither; sometimes it is called giving 110%. My point is that there was never a question of unsportsmanlike conduct at the time of the play and there shouldn't be one now.

    One of teams we played had on metal but we did not protest or even mention. Did not make a difference in game.
