There are times in life when life itself seems to be unfair and we question God and wonder why this? However it is through our faith in our Creator and Redeemer that we are able to survive and thrive under His care. One of my former players and current Catcher at Person High School, Travis Vaughan was recently diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma. He had a knot removed from his neck a few weeks back and learned of the cancer a couple of weeks ago. Needless to say this has had quite an impact on his family, friends, and team mates. Travis needs our prayers. He is one of the best kids I have coached. This is his senior season, and he has been looking forward to it. According to the doctors, the surgery eliminated most all of the cancer, and he is in remission. He still will undergo 3-4 chemo treatments and radiation to "make sure" the cancer is gone. His twin sister, Tracey is a Shortstop on the PHS softball team and she is being tested also.

Travis was a leader on the field for me and a true warrior. He wants to play through this. Incidentally he played 2 games before having the chemo port installed Friday and against Middle Creek, hit the first pitch of his 1st at bat of the season out for a home run. He hit his second HR in game 2 vs, South Granville. Only God knows what's in store for him and I know he will battle through this. The outlook is very optimistic as is his personal outlook and faith in God. Please pray for Travis, Tracey and their family as they go through this.

Thanks Coach for posting this. I almost missed it. This is a remarkable young man that I believe has a mission in life. We are just witnessing the beginning.

I will pray for Travis and his family and look forward to hearing more of his remarkable recovery,

    UPDATE ON TRAVIS

Travis played in his 3rd game of the season and hit his 3rd HR of the season! His first since having his chemo port placed and then his first chemo treatment this past Friday. IN 3 games played he has hit 3 HR's. He did experience sickness after the first treatment, but he told me he thought it as "something he ate after the treatment" He has such a positive outlook on this and appreciates the prayers he is receiving!!

I thank all of you who are praying for this outstanding young man!!

Prayers with this kid for sure. We were on the receiving end of his first homerun this season shortly after we were informed of his unfortunate news. Even though it put us down in the ballgame, it was a special moment on that ballfield.

Thoughts and prayers will be with this guy for sure.

    Coach Evans

Definitely will keep him in my prayers. Somewhat familiar with situation in that I had same thing back in summer of 1973. Was a guinea pig at that time for chemo but liked the opportunity versus complete radiation treatments. The stuff worked and no problems since.

Plan to help Gary Harris with Bobby Murray again so will see you guys there in a few weeks. Look forward to seeing Travis play - that's great that he is knocking the ball out. Maybe there is something to the chemo - one time they messed up my injection and my arm looked like Popeye the sailorman

    Update on Travis

    Quick Update

Travis has done well after his first chemo treatment, he did get a little sick but has been able to continue playing.

In fact, Travis was named the recipient of Tom Suiter's WRAL Extra-Effort Award and will have it presented to him Wednesday! For those of you in the Raleigh area, you know this award is special!!

Keep praying as we are still in the beginning of this journey!!
