East Rutherford / AC Reynolds Scrimmage

Great weather for a scrimmage tonight at East Rutherford. The teams actually got in 12 innings before 7:30 on a school night!

For AC Reynolds, Junior LH Blaine Howell was great. He threw the first 4 innings, striking out 9 and allowing only 1 run, a solo shot by Zeke Blanton. He didn't walk anybody. He was also 3-4 at the plate. RH Sam Runion threw 86-89 in his relief stint, and John Henson was 2-4.

For East Rutherford, Blanton continued a solid week. Coming off a HR Sat. against TC Roberson, he homered again and was 3-5, 2B, , SB, 2 R, 2 RBI.
JR. Blake Bostic was 2-4 with a Triple. SO. Michael Melton had a key 3 RBI triple in the Cavs 6-run 6th inning, and JR. Trey Owens was 2-2 with a HR.
As you can see, the Cavs are getting a lot of production out of young players.

Kyle Campfield, Melton and Bostic all pitched 2 scoreless innings for ER.

East Rutherford scored 10 runs in the scrimmage, AC Reynolds posted 6.

East Rutherford has 4 games next week, starting with 3A Crest on Monday.

Rocket, sounds like ER is set to make another run.

It's early, but holding your own against TC Roberson and AC Reynolds is encouraging. We'll know more when the games start. Lots of good young talent at ER and West Henderson. I think we'll see these teams play some important games (quite possibly against each other) the next few years.

    NW Cabarrus 7
    North Stanley 4

A very decieving final score. After commiting many early errors, Coach Culp regrouped his North Stanley Comets and they shut down the Trojans the rest of the way.

Nick Daniels started on the mound for NW (2 innings),followed by Robby Gurley (2 innings), Joe Kent (1 inning), Brandon Lockard (1 inning), and Blake Ketner (1 inning).

This is the Trojan's final scrimmage. NW is awaiting the return of starting shortstop Kyle Seager (basketball) and are enjoying the return from injury this year for the brothers Jake and Jerrod Faggart (out most of 2004), as well as the many starters and regulars from last years' team. Nevertheless, the bat of Justin Thompson will be sorely missed this year.

South Meck vs Central Cabbarrus (scrimmage)

    South Meck 6
    Central Cab 3

Sabres pitching looked strong again tonight with Worrell, Layman, Morris, Rubinstein and Andress seeing action on the mound. South hit the ball hard all night but mainly right at the Central Cabbarrus defense. Matt Andress and Reid Rollison both went yard tonight.

Sabres open the regular season Tuesday 3/1 at home against North Meck....Should be a great game!

If scrimmage scores bear any importance, Rocky Mount outscored South Johnston 14-8 last Saturday, and tied Wake Forest-Rolesville today 6-6. If how the teams looked bears any importance, Rocky Mount didn't look particularly sharp in the field, and we couldn't touch Andrew Taylor.

Justin Thompson: He's not playing this year for personal reasons.

Yeah, we definitely hate it over here in Trojanland. Hopefully he can get things straightened out and come back strong for his senior year (or maybe he could have a change of heart??? I don't know.....just some wishful musing on my part)

Great kid and athlete. I wish him success in whatever path he decides to follow.
