I know it is early to be discussing legion ball with HS still going on but who are predicted to be the top teams this coming summer? Who will have who playing for them?

I think Mooresville might be better than a 5th spot?

You would have to think Kinston should be strong this summer.

several of south caldwells best players didnt play legion ball last year and i would guess not many of them will play this year including bungarner, poovey and coffey. hope im wrong. still they will probably have a decent team. messer played last year after the high school playoff run. like to hear from the people that know whos playing

I doubt you will see Bumgarner in legion ball. He will probbally be in a development league somewhere. I think Poovey is having elbow surgey right after the high school season if so he won't be there. As for Daniel Coffey I hope he plays legion ball and wouldn't be surprised to see him there this year

    Kannapolis???

Thanks Homeplate for adding us back to your list.

I mean I know we lost a lot of players from last years team, but considering we've WON the Area 3 championship 3 of the last 4 years, I don't think this year's bunch will fall off the map completely.

Hopefully, we can still be "competitive".

Don't ever count out Kannapolis. It seems like they are always in the title chase every year. I still can't get over the game between Kannapolis and Caldwell County last year. That was an unbelievable game between 2 powerful teams and the homerun that Madison Bumgarner hit was unreal.

I spoke to coach Hamby from Post 29 a few days ago and he fully expects Daniel Coffey to play legion ball this summer. He will take over Casey Justice's spot at 3rd base most likely.

Coach Hamby's main concern is at pitching. He said Jimmy Messer was looking forward to playing this summer and so was Andrew Berry. I wouldn't count on Madison or Poovey being available unfortunately. If we had both of these guys then Caldwell would be heavy favorites for the title. Also Derek Coffey and Matt Gragg are both eligible to pitch but I'm not sure what they are going to do.
