    Here we go again

    I think you forgot one!

NC, would you still sandbag if there were prizes for the winner? :smiley2:

Oh, and I don't think you're welcome at the BagDome any more -- they could probably take being picked behind Providence, but East Meck, too? Those folks are planning on a state crown, and you're picking them 3rd in their conference! :nono:

And what geniuses in Chapel Hill (where the NCHSA is) decided that Chapel Hill is in the west. West of what?

This is fun, and you are the man. :notworthy

DB ... the trick is to figure out how you think the VOTING is going to go, not who are the best 10 teams in the West or East .... :D :D

I'm just trying to predict the voting.

I figure there will be 10 people voting in the west. My guess is that there will be a geographic distribution to the voters and it will look something like this: 3 will be from the South Charlotte area, 1 from Greensboro, 1 from Hickory, 2 from the Mountains (Asheville and Hendersonville probably), 1 from Winston-Salem area, 1 from Gastonia (or sightly west of there) and finally 1 from Concord/Kannapolis area.

Based on that, I didn't leave anyone out.

West of 1) Fuquay-Varina 2) JH Rose 3) Garner, 4) Hoggard. The same geniuses that decided they didn't want their local team playing against the beasts of the east every season.

Those teams are historically very stout. :stupid:

Hillsborough-Orange moved down to 3A this season (taking a very talented team with them), leaving the PAC-6 to finish out their tenure until re-alignment with only 5 teams. Person (Coachevans26's school), Riverside, Jordan, Chapel Hill, Northern Durham. I don't know if they will play each other twice (and have a lot of non-conference games) or play each other 3 times this season (which would be brutal, particularly if you also have a conference championship tourney).

Maybe Coach Evans will chime in and tell us what's happening up there....

obtw: He would be one of my choices as a voter....

Additional 3A teams from the West to consider are Burns, Tuscola and East Gaston.

    4A East

On paper, JH Rose is a heavy favorite to win the Big East conference again and probably the favorite to win the state championship. Rose is flat loaded - it all depends on how hungry the kids are. You can be assured that they, as usual, will be the best coached team around.

Another team to watch in the Big East will be Greenville Conley. Many people seem to think that New Bern could make the playoffs this year. Also, never count out Rocky Mt.

Hoggard will be excellent. Laney has been improving. I would also think Fuquay and Garner will be good, as well as Lee County.

This was covered under a different thread ... Team Polls:

Due to the size of the state, the polls this year are going to be broken down East/West in each classification. Example: Top-10 4A teams in East, Top-10 4A teams in West. The East/West classification will follow the division of conferences for playoffs.

The polls will be released on February 10th.

p.s.: I merged the two threads for convenience.

We will play each other twice (the baseball coaches wanted to go to 3 but the AD's voted us down, because they felt like they would have to redo the schedules in all sports (in my opinion not a good enough reason). We also play a conference tournament.

I had to schedule 14 non-conference games, just to get 22, not a full schedule, but I got tired of looking for both quality, closeness to home, etc...
This is very diffcult in this part of the state because the Raleigh schools for the most part are committed to playing Raleigh schools for non-conference games, for the most part. Maybe the NCHSAA needs to take a different approach and shake up the boat a little as far as realignment goes, and to maintain stability, force schools to bite the bullet and stay where they are put for the 4 years.

Coach, that's a good argument for an eight team conference. I was thinking the same thing when I saw the Charlotte area broken down into 4 conferences, 3 with 6 teams and 1 with 7 teams.... That's a lot of extra games to try and find.... and you don't want to be playing the "poor sisters of the blind".....
