Preventing arm injuries

    Your laying on your side, arm out stretched above your head, have the foam role under you so that you are lying on it at the upper side of yours ribs, then role back and forth very slowly massaging the muscles in the side of your body.

    In the many years that I have played baseball, the cold has never reallly been the factor as to why my arm hurt. If my arm was hurting it was due to the fact that I didn't warm up the right way or long enough, or I didn't put ice on it after practice or after throwing 25 pitches every other day during the week.

    If you don't treat your arm as if it's worth 999,999,999$ then you're going to experience some trouble along the road. That's a major problem with high school players because they feel as though they're indestructable. Usually when their arms hurt Icy Hot keeps the pain at a minimum. Also, I see the Advil and the Tylenol in the bat bags....players shouldn't rely on that to keep the pain away because it's gonna come back and bite them in the butt.

    Stretch, stretch, stretch................ BEFORE AND AFTER
    Work up a sweat in the pen.............
    Keep pitch counts reasonable to the conditioning of the pitcher and weather conditions.......

    Although Fisherman has as much knowledge about rehab techniques as probably anyone else on the board, he keeps (no, he floods) me emails to start a Fishing Forum...any interest?

    hit it on the head West Meck! Despite the conscious efforts and reminders and exertions of good coaches to their players about taking care of their arms KIDS just keep on throwin when and whenever as long as they feel like it until Uh Oh my arm hurts and as you said I notice my players with the Icy Hot and the aspirin when they pull em up and out and immediately it is a red flag and they DO NOT play! Huh? Yes, just as in a strain and or a leg, body pull as well if they do not take care to prepare etc... they have failed to be "coacheable" at least for this ONE time and lesson. Bottom line as a coach you are sending out a player on the field who is less than 100 % and could potentially hurt your team when there may be someone on the bench who has been waiting his trun and is 100 %.................. :agreed: :thud: :lalala:

    i heard from someone that streching too much is a bad thing. that if you dont strech you can throw harder becuase the muscles arent as loose. is this true?? i have never heard this before

    Well i like to work on my form while casting a rattle trap and then i go to the stretch using a spinner bait. It has been a while since ive been so my mechanics where a little rusty, but hey i ended up catching 12 on friday and today, well i wasnt hitting my spots well so i only caught 5. Friday was a good day, hit my spots well, ended up catching 2 nice bass weighing about 8 a peice. I will eventually hit my spots with ease, i need to soon, conference is coming around the and that means the bass are coming up on the beds haha.

    Someone who wants to pitch better than you must have told you this.

    Stretching helps prevent injuries too. Watch a MLB game and see every player stretch. Pitcher's even get massages to loosen the muscles before every start.

    You can't throw well with tight muscles.
