Went to a high school game last nite and on the left arm of the one of the teams were those play card holders.
It was similar too but not exactly like this:

My question is this, Why are they legal to wear? Is it considered part of the uniform(they were all wearing them), It seems more in the category of accessory like a hair ribbon. In baseball or softball, I would not think using a playcard is "normally" part of the uniform like football where plays are actually used.

Also thought the playcard on the pitchers arm to fall under the category of distraction.

Just curious what others think about them.

Seen them used for years. In the case of a team with 3 or 4 pitchers and 3 or 4 catchers who play on 3 or 4 different teams......puts everybody on the same page.

Never saw them before in softball. I guess everyone on defense wearing them makes it a part of the uniform.

LOL...there is not that much to learn in softball. Do you see major league baseball players wearing them? Do you see D1 softball players wearing them? If your team needs to wear them you are probably over coaching.

these are being used by a good number of catchers at the collegiate level, but only catchers

Like several other things in softball. some coaches use them because they think it looks cool plain and simple.
as someone else stated there isn't enough information in baseball or softball that you need to have to write it down. Plain old hand signs has worked for years and still will. look at major leage baseball. they have upwards of 10 pitchers, a couple catchers and much more complicated stuff going on than high school softball but don't have to write it on their arms lol

I'm watching the Oklahoma-Missouri game. The Missouri catcher has one.

    They have their advantages.
