    1 ) What if a college coach sent a letter to a player and wrote, quote for a quality education and an incredible athletic experience" we would like to further explore the possibilty of you joining our program." hand signed by the head coach.

    or;

    2) What if a player gets a letter saying quote" we have started a recruiting file on you and I would like to have your schedules for the summer and we will make every effort to see you play this summer.I would like to hear from you. signed by the head coach.

    Which of the 2 letters has more weight?

    ...whats the difference?

    If you get a letter from a coach/program asking for your summer schedule then thats great news. AND immediatley reply whether you know your schedule or not. Better yet, ask in your reply about the schools summer camp and if you're really interested in going to that school, and playing for the coach then let them know it. The cool part about going to the camp is that you can see what the coach/school is like and they can see how you fit in with their program in a couple of days. No recruiting pressure, rules on who can talk to who, and how many times, etc.

    Well

    Depends on schools and coaches as to weight I put on either letter. Common language for sure.

    yes they are legal...they can send one letter to a recruit. they can ask you to call them but they can not initiate the call or recturn a call. which they have done...yes they saw her at their camps have her stats and will watch her play this summer...my question is has anyone ever received one of these letters? if so were they similar...and did anything ever come out of them...is this enough to think they are serious about recruiting a player...

    My dd was sent line up cards with her name included. Scorebook pages with her name in the order as though she had played. Newspaper clippings with her name in the article as though she had played. One word letters that came daily to form a sentence by the end of the week. This went on for several weeks. As a rising senior she was easily flattered and could have been an easy sale......until she went to visit. The first words when we started to leave after an overnight visit was,"there is no way I would go to school here."

    So.....verbal , written, or otherwise be careful, don't rush....when the glass slipper fits you will know.

    Super, super advice. I had heard of this in other sports.... props to your DD in showing a lot of maturity in her decision making process.

    .....I like this post ERMSbuddy. Georgetown sent my DD something called the "'Hoyabet". Each letter was cool.like A would be academics, then B, C, D letters with neat stuff, but the coolest was the letter E, it said The Exorcist, and it had a picture of the outdoor stairway that the preacher was flung out on and rolled down to his death in the movie that was filmed on G'towns campus.

    First, the fact that your DD received a letter it means she is on a radar. I wouldn't place a great deal of weight on the "form letters" because they get names from many avenues, including tournaments entered. Sometimes without ever seeing the player play.

    I strongly recommend that your DD answer every letter received, even the form letters, out of courtesy.

    However, the letters that you received that are handwritten or personally signed is a clear message that the school has definite interest. The one's that ask for schedules are usually a good sign, also.

    It's the beginning of a very exciting time in your family's life. Have fun and enjoy!
