For all of you baseball and softball pitching gurus, what are the main differences in mechanics (other than throwing overhand and underhand) between baseball and softball pitchers that allow softball pitchers to throw so many pitches? Last year I saw Cat Osterman of Texas throw something like 175 pitches in a game that went extra innings, and then she came back in the next game in relief and threw another three or four innings. I believe Casey Hanes of Lenoir-Rhyne pitched every game in the NCAA Regionals a few weeks ago, and I think they played about six games in a matter of a few days.

    Just curious.

The mechanics of a softball pitcher does not affect the shoulder nor the elbow tendons or ligaments like throwing overhand. There is very little risk of rotator cuff problems or elbow tendon tear

Plus girls are stronger than boys...at least that is what my wife says

It depends on the pitching style and the pitcher's ability to stay in form. We've seen plenty of girls with elbow, shoulder, and back problems as a result of their pitching style. :twocents:
