Exactly coach...unfortunately a few abuse the system and raises doubts about some intentions. In those cases , it affects alot of people negatively and sets a poor example. However, I still believe in the good of people and that baseball is a great chance to grow, learn and a great way to learn life lessons.

Here's the way to look at this... The problem lies with local school boards (BOE's), who are the policy makers for a school system. school systems with "open enrollment" policies have them mainly so they can have schools of choice, where they can diversify study and have specialty schools so kids can specialize in certain programs when feasible. This opens up a can of worms in these situations because if child A claims to want to take certain courses from a particular school, then what prohibits the BOE from allowing that child to transfer. Here lies in the problem, many times kids will take the minimum courseload to allow transfer...then play ball. Once in the school here he is...

This is more of a problem in urban districts with multiple schools. Districts like Charlotte-Mecklenberg, Wake, Durham, Guilford, the bigger districts. It can also happen in smaller districts.

what happened to the good ole days when you attended schools where you actually live??? That's the way it should be... if you want to transfer, for whatever reason, then move to a new residence.

In most cases, kids transfers are legitimate. In the cases where some manipulate the system for the sake of their kid playing sports, people know. Kids talk, families know, situations can easily be figured out. But at the end of the day, true character is revealed. Sports ,especially baseball, is an honorable American pastime, that produce the greatest athletes and role models. Hopefully, in the high school level, this is what we are creating .Coaches and parents play a huge role in not just having good athletes on a winning team, but honest, hard working athletes that will look back on what and who got them there as good examples.

Sports do not build character. They reveal it. - Haywood Hale Broun

I'm still trying to figure out what they need to specilize in. The state says you need to take and pass these classes to grad.

Winston-Salem Forsyth County School System

In 2006, to graduate, students must pass the North Carolina competency tests and successfully complete the following units:
English 4 Mathematics4Science 4Social Studies 3Health.5 Physical Education 1Life Management Skills.5 Electives 6 Total 23
Students in four-period schools must complete three additional electives, for a total of 26 units. Beginning with the class of 2010, students must meet state exit standards to graduate.

Now since most schools are on a 7 period day that would be a total of 28 classes. Minus out the electives and the increase that will leave a student to take 9 classes to pickup requirements for college or to take classes that may transfer as a college credit. I have no ever seen on any application what did you specilize in high school.
