    maybe not

:smash:Better be careful there Dawgfan, his employer would just counter sue for his winnings due to poor job performance from spending too much time on message boards.

I really feel for that boy's family, but, what a lot of us would like to know is:

    1) Was the bat in that boy's bat bag any safer than the one that hit the ball that stopped his heart?
    2) Wat the store where he bought his bat any better about keeping "dangerous bats" off the field?

Braces cut out of my DDs lips.....

....and the trauma of watching it by momma and fish is nothing in comparison of a kid in the ER going through this event!....Lawsuit? or no lawsuit? Suing never was an issue, but I've got to wonder what could have prevented this...........DD, wearing mandatory helmet with metal/plastic covered facemask. Worthless chinstrap. The very ones that are required now. DD hits ball to 1st-2nd hole, 1B chases ball, fields it properly, 2B comes to 1st base, properly, and BOOOYAH! The facemask of my DDs helmet was driven into her top front teeth. Her braces had to be cut off her teeth in order for the Dr. to pull them out of her lip!!!! Now, with all of the safety issues in products, bats, pitching distance, whatever, why, I ask ya'll, has there been no concern in what a chinstrap is intended to do? Just keeping your helmet on appears real clear to me to be the wrong answer. But thats the only chinstrap "rule" in place. Oh.....BTW, I've always heard of the braces out of the lips thing and how horrible it is.......well, I'll just say this, KIDS WEAR A MOUTHPIECE!.

    Question Again ???

How many of us check our brakes on our cars on a daily bases ?? Probably none of us, but we get in our cars everyday and run between 55-65mph up down the highway from point A to point B, and never think for a minute if our brakes will stop our car....Is that smart ??? Probably not, my point is that we have to use common sense in whatever we do or attempt to do in life. I've never understood why people jump out of a perfectly good airplane or climb to the top of Mt Everest where there is no oxygen, it just doesn't make any sense, or why we get in front of a baseball / softball zooming at 90 plus miles per hour at our bodies, but it's choses that we make everyday. Why should we be able to sue if soemthing goes wrong or not what we've planned ?? Everything has its RISK !!!

When the chin strap is worn properly it has a better chance of keeping the mask off of the player's face. It should be worn on the chin (just under the lip). God made a little crease there just for that purpose. It also should be adjusted tight enough to give just a little. Just about every player I see wears the strap under their chin. All that does is keeps the helmet from coming off. The helmet is meant to protect against balls. The kind of collision your DD had at first would probably require a football helmet. I hate to think what would have happened had she not been wearing the helmet.

    Skydiving

I think you should try skydiving Guru! I used to think the same thing until I tried it. I have been 5 or 6 times (tandem only - no solo yet...) now. It is sooooo much fun!
