With all the previous discussions about the potentially dangerous consequences of bat alterations as well as all the talk about how unethical it is....

Why are there ads at the top of the page for shaving, rolling and juicing a bat? Has something changed that I missed?

    Just wondering.

Excellent question erms, I wondered about that too. Only other Ad that I found offensive was the irreverant dvd "the God that wasn't there". That's whats wrong with this country now, too many people trying to ridicule and deny Gods existance. Trying to ignore that one..........

one other thing about the ads

my understanding is that when a member clicks on the ad, we receive compensation. but if you continually click on the same ad a multitude of times, you get ignored. if something looks of interest, click on it so we can get da cash, but dont take it to extremes....and try to ignore the ones that are just flat stupid, like bat rolling/shaving and stuff like that.

I kinda liked the ad for bikinis that was on the baseball board... I bet it got "clicked" on a few times, but I also doubt any swimsuits got purchased!

As a mod I take exception to those types of ads on Preps.
It looks like we (TBR and the mods) are condoning the practice of altering bats. and I hope it gets fixed soon as I want no part of that association.

Google Ads, as I understand it, is an all or nothing proposition. You takes their money and you takes your chances... on the content of the ads. You can't tell Google what ads you will or won't accept.

Unfortunately, we didn't get ANY money unless an ad is clicked on. It's not like we signup and they start sending money.

Keep this in mind. We are a free site that exists by donations of members. When the members don't donate, we can not continue. LarryD has tried to find a way to continue TBR without putting a financial burden on anybody, yet continue the website. I'm sure certain ads will appear that some may not like, but we have absolutely no control in telling google what to place and what not to....at least we don't have those irritating pop up ads.

I understand the concerns those of you have expressed and I sent them on to Larry to see what can be done. But, in my opinion, unless we had someone step up and secure us financially, we have limited options to keep this site FREE.

But, to give everyone a heads up, we have secured our own website (free of muckraking from other members of this board) that will have the messageboard towed with it. It will consist of videos, pics, blogs and stories with easy access for those who can provide that kind of information.

At this point, I have no idea about the ads and such, but I'm hoping we can provide site specific ads that include members and their services. It would tie in very well with the new website vs posting member ads here.

Also, for those who are incensed with the ads "rolling bats" as I was, click on the "ads by Google" and voice your complaint and concerns.

Here is what I sent: "The ads "rolling bats" and "juicing bats" are illegal in every facet of playing organized softball/baseball. To advertise an ad that is blatantly illegal on a sports website is not only inappropriate, but fosters the same principles as using steroids (it's illegal). I would hope that you will take these advertisements off our site (Thisboardrocks.com) or we will be forced to find another competitor."

The more that complain about this issue to google, the quicker the response should be.

folks, all i can say is that i'm working on a better solution. right now, these google ads pay the bills and we can't pick and choose -- in fact, the advertisers choose us. they have keywords that they want to target (people talking about baseball and softball are attractive to people selling bats, gloves and other gear) and we are who they're looking for.

what i would advise is that if you see an ad that does NOT fit with what we want here, then report it to google. in fact, i've already done that with a couple of them.

what i would also advise is that if you see an ad that interests you, then please click on it for further information.

in the big picture, i'd really like to replace the google ads with LOCAL and KNOWN advertisers. that will come along with the exciting new changes that i'm working on today.

thanks, everyone, for your enthusiasm, patience and support.
