One of you crest guys is a Deacon's fan - well you signed a good one here. Drumgoole came out of nowhere. They sure called his name alot last year making tackles. Plus he's put on about 40 pounds since this time last year.

He will anchor another great Tiger defense next season.

Deacons get commitment from Ragsdale's Drumgoole

    By Bill Cole
    JOURNAL REPORTER

Wake Forest got its football recruiting rolling yesterday, receiving a commitment from Brandon Drumgoole, a defensive lineman from Ragsdale High School.

Drumgoole is a 6-6, 225-pound junior with 4.85-second speed in the 40. Wake Forest was the first school to offer him a scholarship, but Coach Tommy Norwood of Ragsdale said it was only a matter of time before other offers arrived.

"Everyone sees how much better and bigger he's going to get," Norwood said. "He's getting better all the time. He's nowhere near his potential."

Drumgoole is Wake Forest's first commitment for the 2004 recruiting year. He can sign a binding national letter of intent in February, when the NCAA's football signing period is scheduled to begin.

"It is early, and he's going to get more smells (attention from recruiters)," Norwood said. "I asked him if Wake Forest was a school he would like if football weren't a concern. He said, 'Yes, it is.' It's always been in his top five."

Drumgoole didn't join Ragsdale's program until his sophomore season, which he spent on the junior varsity. He became a starter last season and had 72 tackles, helping Ragsdale go 11-1 in Class 3-A play.

He also had six tackles for losses, three sacks, four caused fumbles and a fumble recovery.

Drumgoole runs the 110-meter high hurdles and has been timed in under 16 seconds.

"The big thing about him as a football player is his quickness and speed," Norwood said. "You don't make them 6-6."

Good pick up for Wake. I'm looking forward to him being a Deac.
