...bases loaded, Bam! ball 4, batter gets an RBI.

    Hello!

....and my favorite, foul ball down the leftfield line, LF gets starry eyed as she runs up to the infield tarp in foul territory, she reaches out and does not make the catch.

Next pitch the batter hits a HR.

The scoreing is an error on the LF a hit for the batter and an unearned run for the pitcher.

    ...I love this game!!!!!!!!

yes fish to the first. rbi on a bases loaded walk

i always wondered where that last ruling came from. e7 on a foulball (if she touches it) new life and the player hits a homer for unearned runs.

Agree with fish as well. Bases Loaded walks do credit the batter with a RBI. Dropped foul flies that should be easily caught are an E. I may fudge it out if the same player actually makes the out on the same batter and it doesn't cost a run.

I've got one for you... A few months ago I heard an announcer quote the number of runs and earned runs for an inning. Noting there was a difference and that no errors occurred, I went and asked why. They (the announcer and the scorekeeper) said that walked batters aren't earned runs. I advised them to look it up.

Of course, she gets an RBI for a walk. The run scored as a result of her at-bat with errorless play on the defense. The most mis-interpreted thing by scorers is that a player has to touch a ball with her glove for it to be an error or if it doesn't touch a player, it has to be a hit. This is not in the rulebook anywhere... If a player runs into the tarp, I'm not charging an error on the play. I'm also not charging an error if a player tries to protect herself form slamming into a wall by coming up short on a ball against the fence, even if it hits her glove. Those are unusual plays and the book says that an error is charged if it only takes ordinary effort to retire the batter.

A ball can go right between the shortstop's legs without her touching it and it's probably going to be an error and a player in the outfield can lay completely out for a ball and it tips off her glove on the diving catch attempt and that's going to be a hit every single time (at least it should be, if the scorer applies the rules correctly).

Baseball and softball scorebooks are riddled with incorrect calls and it gets me when people get to the college level and complain about the scoring when they don't know the rules (not all of them, but the loudest ones usually are the ones that don't know what they are talking about.) No offense, but I wish parents could relax a bit and just enjoy watching their kids play the sports that they love and not mess with the friendly, neighborhood scorekeepers, who have a lot of work to do (and want to get it right.) At the end of the day, trying to win the game by competing fairly, with good sportsmanship and maximum hustle and effort should be the top priority. Let the teams decide it on the field and move on to the next game or practice.
