Better get used to less and less radio coverage with Draughn being added into the mix next year. I've noticed Kicks 103.3 is going a "Catawba Valley Game of the Week" this year. They were at East Burke tuesday night for our game, maybe they can help pick up some of the games in the future that Big Dawg can't do.

Anyway, as far as this new draft goes, I'll be honest geographically it isn't that bad a layout. Yes Patton got their way in getting out of a 4A split but on the otherhand there was a compromise by the NCHSAA not putting the two Eastern Burke schools in on this as well. Freedom and Patton's longest drive will be to Chase or Shelby which will be about 1 hour. Meanwhile you'll have drives to Rutherfordton and Forest City which will be 30-45 minutes down US 64. It isn't a nice as hitting I-40 towards Hickory but it is IMO reasonable.

I wished I was more than enthusiastic about us driving ALL THE TIME into Asheville/Buncombe County. I know from personal experience about driving to Asheville for my job (95 miles round trip), its not an easy thing to do at all. But I guess its better than driving to Waynesville or Franklin like one of the proposals that was mentioned.

I would think as far as competition goes this should suit Freedom well. I'm not saying they won't have any competition, just that they should do very well. Just IMO.

I agree, we should be fine in alomst all sports.
Just really unsure about how much money we will take in. There is no way that Chase will bring in the gate that a South or AC Reynolds brings in.

We'll just have to make sure we play MCDowell, East Burke, and Draughn twice in non-conference

I believe the name for the 3a/2a conference with Freedom,Shelby,East Rutherford,Chase,RS Central,Burns, and Patton will be called the SMAC 3a/2a.
SMAC stands for South Mountain Athletic Conference.I was told this was ok'ed at a meeting between all the schools last week.I think the league East Burke and Draughn is going to be called the CVAC 2a.
