Very good points VI...there's nothing more frustrating than establishing good relations just to have things broken up...and now that you have brought up your issues I have an idea...not that it may be a good one, but it could be one to consider. How about this proposal for a conference...

    3A/4A Split

    Mooresville
    Lake Norman
    Alexander Central
    Hickory
    St Stephens
    Fred T Foard

    3A/4A Split:

    TC Roberson
    AC Reynolds
    McDowell
    South Caldwell
    Watuaga
    Freedom
    Hibriten
    Patton

The 3 Charlotte conferences may have to interchange a couple teams among each other but it would keep Mooresville and Lake Norman from having to travel into the city...just think about it. Would you rather travel to Hickory or even Taylorsville and possibly get better gate money in exchange of heading down into the city of Charlotte?

This proposal would also affect the folks up my way...it would keep McDowell and Freedom together in a conference while drawing in TC Roberson. This would also make somewhat better AC Reynolds and their travel issues that they currently face in the NW4A.

Courage is FEAR, that said it's PRAYERS.
None of this will change, simply because the NCHSAA in no way, shape, or form will make TC Roberson hit the highway like they did AC Reynolds. The best thing to happen to ACR was for TCR to go 4A, we knew we wouldn't be traveling when that happened.

This is true. Reynolds would have left the NWC in the last realignment if Roberson had gotten to 4A numbers. The NCHSAA will not create a combo league unless their are two teams in a classification, or that's what they said whey they kept ACR in the Northwestern 4A the last time.

That's what I have been wondering the whole time...if that is indeed true then McDowell should have the right to stay down here instead of going to the Mountain Athletic Conference.

I say no combo leagues and make Roberson step up to the plate and play with the big boys of 4A. If the NCHSAA made Reynolds do it, Roberson should also be included as well. I just dont wanna see teams like McDowell, Alexander Central, South Caldwell, & Watauga get the shaft in playoff selection from two teams who we could have played against to earn their spots. We suffered enough of that when Reynolds was the only 4A team in the mountains when Crest was in the NW4A.

    i could handle that.

we used to play in the old WFC 3A along with Hickory, S. Caldwell, St. Stephens, FT Foard and i think S. Iredell maybe? we also played 4A S. Rowan, AC and Davie Co (among others), leading up to conference play each year. we've also been in 2A conferences with Lincolnton, Maiden, E. Lincoln and Catholic back in the day. man, things sure have changed.

    sorry man.

if they could work the 1A conferences right (in football terms, as you spoke of), keeping geographic rivalries and all the other related logistics in tune, your reasoning should work better than the status quo. it could re-set the classifications too.

    my brain hurts.

It's easy to talk about schools whining about travel time when you're not the one having to do the traveling. Try making a trip from Watauga to ACR 2 days in a row because of a rainout. Talk to the students that had to get out of class during around 12:45 to go play a 4:00 game and then do it again the next day. You add another school that far away from ACHS and WHS to travel to and it puts even more strain on the student athletes that are missing class. When discussing the new conferences, don't forget the most important part of the reallignment, the student athletes, not the competition. While I'm not a fan of spllit conferences, the new split NW is much easier to travel, and much, much better for the students.
