But dont complain come state playoff time when you get shafted from a split league that gets their teams in when you could have gotten in from a full conference.

Never again will I complain about the realignment comm. again. You guys are bad!!!!!! Combo conf. are not that bad. To many teams make the playoffs anyway. No way ACHS or SC should have been in playoffs this year. Next thing you know the Warden will trip over the door mat and want McDowell in the playoffs!!!!!!!!

I'm thinking as i type this...so forgive the rambling.

Lets say there are 8 teams in a combo 3A/4A conference that gives 5 Non-Con games to play.

Now say a team wins 5 games all season and of those 5, 3 are Con wins against the 3A schools.

Now that team is playoff eligible with 5 wins 3 wins in conference, but no wins against its Class school.

Would that team get a higher seeding over a same conf. team that won 4 games total but has 3 wins against its class?

Seems to me this issue with splits is that you only are really competing against those in your class when it comes to seedings in the playoffs....and as we know the seeding isnt actually fair....its really based on geography....

I am fairly certain that if the NW4A were not in line to get the #1 seed this year that Watauga would have been give an #2 or #3 and Alexander Central would have been seeded higher and still playing them....or South would have gotten the higher seed and played watauga and AC would have traveled to ACR....

So really and truly what we are looking at is a system that for the most part gives you a quality champion but not necessarily the #1 team....yet maximizes the amount of $$$ for the state.

actually cougar man we here in mcdowell know what we are dealing with and know when we should and should not be in the playoffs. hold your sarcasm until needed. you guys arent the ones that will have to drive up the mtn every game to buncombe co. just worry about getting a lucky bid for your cougars every year and we will worry about re-building ours.

When it comes to McDowell Football, I know they shouldnt have made the playoffs. But these split leagues are gonna cause alot of issue about who gets in and who stays home. You can make fun of me all you want, but I think its crap that a team with a 4-6 record gets into the playoffs just because they're the 2nd highest team in their class. Anyone will travel a great distance to play a playoff game or in another sport - a tournament, so why should it matter? Combine those combo leagues to form a full 4A conference so that there's parity in the selection process.

For a little perspective, it wasn't too long ago that the old Western 4A included:
    Hunter Huss
    Ashebrook
    Freedom
    East Burke
    Hickory
    Asheville
    McDowell

Now, let's talk travel time with Asheville to/from Huss or Ashebrook, and vice versa. I was in HS at that time, and I LOVED those trips to Huss and Ashebrook. Dont' remember too much complaining then, but as a HS student, I wouldn't have cared.

But man, those were some awsome basketball games with the likes of Worthy, Peterson, Floyd, Washburn, etc... all coming through there at nearly the same time.
