Can someone give the dead period when college coaches cannot attend tournaments? I have been told that the early signing showcase at Myrtle Beach is during this time. It is my understanding that only DIII schools are aloud to attend this event. I don't understand the reasoning of having a showcase type event during a dead period. Thanks for any insight on this.

Charlie's got it right....the old 4 week window in October for Division I is gone.

After a 2 year period, the NCAA changed the rule back this year to allow coaches from all divisions to be out all fall, except for the dead period during the NFCA Convention. Division I coaches are still limited to 50 dates a year.

    Question...

Could someone please, in layman's terms, explain the difference between a quiet period and a dead period.

    Thanks.

In softball, there is no such thing as a quiet period. That only applies for basketball and football. For softball, we only have dead period's and a contact/evaluation period.

According to the Documents supplied by BMac above, there is a quiet period listed for NCAA Div. I softball from November 26 to Jan. 1.
