What age group are you asking about....

It goes on all the time in the younger travel ball / AAU teams and continues up to around Showcase / Legion ball age. Normally once you get to Showcase / Legion age the teams invite you to tryout or play for their teams....it then comes personal preference on which team you are going to get the best exposure with that the players elect to stay with....I've also heard where it does happen with some High School teams as well in our area.:gnorsi:

AAU/USSSA recruiting is a way of life. There are no barriers and it appears anything goes. I've experienced it first hand on both sides of the equation.

High School ball I have witnessed 3 situations of recruiting. I blew it off and walked the other way and for the situation that did not pretain to me we just forgot about it. It didn't involve us. I don't pay any attention to it. Who cares? It's going to happen to some degree and we can't do anything about it so why stress over it? People will do what they think is best for them.

Showcase recruiting exists and have currently witnessed this first hand. I see this the same as an extention of younger travel ball.

College recruiting guidelines can be found on the internet or you can contact the ACC office of Compliance in Greensboro and they can review guidelines with you, send you info or tell you where to get it. I'm by there every couple of weeks for other business and the info is very accessible.

I believe it goes on at some level in most HS sports not just baseball, in Colleges some, and I believe it is rampant in the lower age group AAU teams. Colleges have guidelines but they are hard to enforce.

As for it being initiated by the parents – at the HS and College age, if a kid sees that he is stuck behind a boy his age for several years, I can understand looking around. However, if the boy just isn't playing and is frustrated, as a parent I'd look around and try to understand why before initiating a move. Is the lack of playing time because of attitude, lack of performance, lack of skills or prejudice on the coaches part? If it's the first three, I believe you are doing the boy a disservice by teaching him to run away. As for the last reason, I don't believe the last happens very often but if in that situation, I could understand.

In general, I am not in favor of it. I particularly do not like it initiated by the coaches.

    It is a beast that

has been developed by the travel teams in my opinion. "Bring you child hear and we will get them the most tallent around them and more college coaches will see them" and that is just life in the travel teams. Sad fact is that this type of attitude has leaked into highschool ball. My kid can not beat out this kid so we should go somewhere else. I want my kid to be seen at a winning program. STatements like these have been heard all around. At least in HS and Legion ball you have to change your address to make a switch I think. :biker:

I dont think that schools should be able to recruite because thats really not fair to some of the other kids at the players old school because that just takes scouting oppurtunity away from the other kids... thats just what i think.

    Recruiting

There are high school players that lease addresses to be able to play for a school that is not in their choice school. Doesnt seem fair to other players that dont get that playing time.
As far as showcase , some teams you pay to play and some teams pay for your total expenses for you to play for them. Some parents take groups of players to a coach and offer them as whole package. Scouts want to see good kids with great skills, shouldn't it start with parents and coaches building teams and raising players with honesty, integrity and fairness.

How about no choice. Go where you live. Transfers must prove that they have moved. Not just a power bill. Maybe a wait period?? Thoughts???

There are many reasons that students transfer out of their zones (in Charlotte) and they are all done legally. Could be an AP student, could be a particular course work (math, arts, science, flexography, ROTC) only found at a particular school.

As far as it being done underhanded...ain't going to happen here. The coaches in the MECA and SW4A know who the players are and where they are zoned. If they have any concern about a transfer, you better believe they will have the AD follow up the 1st day of school to question it.

I dunno why, but transfers have never bothered me. For every reason one can state that it's wrong, there is another side that can make it right.

Whether one transfers or not, he still has to make the team. I have seen this backfire on transfers as well.

Noted. Let me state that there has been some over the last season and this. I do not point but look at who was playing yesterday (last year) and who is today. I do look at it from this veiw. If a coach starts a transfered player from just overed the school line opver a player that has been in the spot. Not someone who has came from another area (remember that we are talking about rtecuriting). What would one think?
