Region 8 Jr State Games Tryouts

I liked the look of Mitch Harris from South Point on the bump personally. Reid Fronk from Charlotte Christian helped his case at 3rd in my opinion. A few sophomores are potentials, even though it's very difficult for a sophomore to make the squad. Michael Cavasinni from North Meck ran a 6.5 60 and looked smooth at 2nd. I did not see the hitting portion so I am uncertain of who stood out.

There were an impressive amount of Juniors at the tryouts

NC, you should have seen Waller hitting...the kid does not get cheated...probably put on the best power display.

Although there were so many players, I'll just mention the ones in our area.

3rd- Reid Fronk, Kyle Shelton and Logan Smith all looked good
SS- Drew Martin looked good as well as Kyle
2nd- I really like Cavasinni at that position..he is a natural there..looks a lot like Goose Carrara
1st- Wes McCall, Elliott Arrington...both can rip the ball...and my leg can attest to Elliott's power ( my shin blew up from a shot from Elliott)..but I never rubbed it :)
OF- Sammy Asis, Stuart Bost and Kevin Dietrich
Catcher- Tim Kremer, Bobby Northrup and Bryan Goodman

Those are just a few from this area and they are off the top of my head...I know there are others that I'm forgetting

I do want to mention one player in particular from the Charlotte area. You know how you can just look at a kid and know " this kid is a player " well, I've seen this kid 4 times now and he is one Braves is marketing for his agency...Stuart Bost!!! This kid can be SPECIAL...and on June 1st...I am going to become his "advisor"...Of course, he doesn't know that yet
    :D

Guys, just so we don't confuse the uninformed readers, we attended the "Region 6" tryouts, not Region 8. I believe Region 8 is the "mountain counties" and Tuscola, West Henderson, T.C., etc., probably don't need our guys to field a team! (I've got to learn to insert smilies :) )

Who besides Cavasinni and Asis ran sub 7 60's? I heard there were 3-4, maybe more. Who showed best behind the plate? I get to see McConnell a lot, but didn't get to see the catchers receive and throw.

Any news on Blake Ketner's (NW Cab.) hammy? He was in a lot of pain and I fear he may miss the remainder of the season and maybe playoffs. That'd be tough, especially happening during a tryout. Loosen up and stretch guys!

    About Blake Ketner...

I've been high on him for a long time. This sophomore can crush a baseball, has soft hands in the infield, throws hard from the mound, he's the complete package.

He's an even better person than he is a ball player too.

I saw him pull up in his 2nd 60. His hand was going down to his hamstring area and he told me he heard something "pop". Didn't get a chance to see him after that as he disappeared on the field.

Blake is a fine player and I pray for a speedy recovery (and for it NOT to be a hamstring, just a tug).......

You're right about Blake's makeup! Great kid. My player played AAU ball for two seasons with Blake. Blake's dad and Coach Greeson played together at Kannapolis. They had not seen eachother since graduation and it was pretty neat to see them get together on Sat.

When Blake "disappeared", he had moved to the sideline fence and was sitting on a bag of ice for the remainder of the tryouts. I saw the trainer from Shelby working with him just before Blake left the field, but didn't hear any prognosis.

RATTDD, who else will be coming out that wasn't there on Sat.? I thought that a Sunday afternoon tryout would not have been a conflict with a player's schedule.

SPD: Sunday tryouts are great ...... provided you aren't a pitcher who pitched on Saturday. There are a few in that category. It's impossible to pick a date what suits the needs of every player, but you have to give them credit for trying.

I forgot about the pitchers that didn't get rained out on Friday and Saturday. It should be fun to watch, but not for forty-elevn hours!

IMO, the tryouts will have to be moved to Sunday again. I believe there will be too many teams trying to make up games this Saturday.

IF you are a player coming to a tryout, you have a lot of "down" time waiting for the next station to start. It's important to keep moving and keep your arm loose and your legs stretched out.

Stretch, stretch, stretch and then stretch some more. Play catch between stations, don't just stand around talking to your buddies that you haven't seen in a couple of years.

Our coach told us that our young men did not have to be there until Saturday, May 10th. Is this incorrect? If so, then we were misinformed.
