    TC review HR

Someone who was there needs to report what happened on walk off slam. Being reported one of base runners ran across infield and passed another runner and carried slugger on his back and there was question if one or both shoul be declared out because some thought neither crossed home plate. If both were declared out, inning would have ended. I think this is what was being protested, not the HR.

No matter what, what a great and exciting game! Congrats to TC!

I was at game and here is what I saw happen. Not sure the rules were interpreted correctly, but someone else out there can comment and decide. Bases loaded, 2 outs, and #23 for TC hits grand slam homerun. Runner on first never gets to 2nd base, he stops half way there and when batter (#23) rounds first and gets half way to second he greets him with a bear hug and lifts him up, and begins carrying him towards his teams 3rd baseline dugout. He gets to the pitchers mound area and puts him down as the dugout on his side is trying to get him and the batter back on the basepaths to run the bases. He eventually does, but the discussion was: is this a dead ball out as he left the baseline before he ever got to 2nd base, and as such it would be a force out, and as such with it being the 3rd out of the inning which would have not allowed the winning run and you now go to the 8th inning? Coach for SEG was on it right away and there was a long discussion for probably 15 to 20 minutes before the decision was game over and TC Roberson wins. I was just a spectator and not for or against either team, so I think I have this sequencing of events correct. Thoughts??????

The ruling is in the book that once the ball leaves the ballpark it is a dead ball. The hitter touches first and the runner on third crosses the plate the game is over. It does not matter what the other runners do.

    MLB rules

A RETOUCH is the act of a runner in returning to a base as legally required. A RUN (or SCORE) is the score made by an offensive player who advances from batter to runner and touches first, second, third and home bases in that order.

4.11 The score of a regulation game is the total number of runs scored by each team at
    the moment the game ends.
    (a) The game ends when the visiting team completes its half of the ninth inning if the
    home team is ahead.
    (b) The game ends when the ninth inning is completed, if the visiting team is ahead.
    (c) If the home team scores the winning run in its half of the ninth inning (or its half of
an extra inning after a tie), the game ends immediately when the winning run is
scored. EXCEPTION: If the last batter in a game hits a home run out of the
playing field, the batter-runner and all runners on base are permitted to score, in
accordance with the base-running rules, and the game ends when the batter-runner
    touches home plate.
APPROVED RULING: The batter hits a home run out of the playing field to win
the game in the last half of the ninth or an extra inning, but is called out for passing
a preceding runner. The game ends immediately when the winning run is scored,
unless there are two out and the winning run has not yet reached home plate when
the runner passes another, in which case the inning is over and only those runs that
scored before the runner passes another shall count.

The 2005 WF vs SM situation was a little different than what has been described here. The WF runner clearly missed 1st base during his HR trot, so he was called out on appeal for missing the base, not passing another runner or celebrating before touching home or anything like that. Different situation, not different interpretation.

Seems to me if the runner on third touched homeplate before the runner going to second touched the batter, then TC wins the game because all they needed was the one run.

Also, the kid hit a grand slam with two outs in the bottom of the 7th to win a regional championship game. Give the guy credit and shake his hand. His run or the run in front of him didn't matter anyway. Side note, Roberson is a rival so it's hard for me to type this.

Yes it was a little different situation, but not really. IF the guy on first never touched second, then it is a FORCE play out and the run should not score. If you call a guy for not touching a base on a homerun, then you call a guy out for not touching a base on a homerun. :39:

Does the batter who hit the home run have to touch home plate to count the run that scored from third? Or as soon as the run from third scored, was the game over since TC was up one run at that point?
