McDowell and Vance tied with a minute to go in the 3rd, 41 all. Great quote on 1250. "Man, their coach (Vance's) is whining again. He has whined the whole game. He needs to be coaching his team." This was after McDowell scored 5 straight to tie the game at 41.

Final score: Vance 61, McDowell 58. The Cougars went 4-for-8 from the free throw line in the game's final minute, but the Titans couldn't capitalize.

Congrats on a great season McDowell you did the NW4A proud!

Man...it has been a long day but well worth it. First off I would like to congratulate Vance on the 61-58 win against McDowell. They played very well and found the people that cause havoc against McDowell's 1-3-1 defense. Even with Lathan Black scoring all those points, McDowell was atill able to force Vance into some turnovers which helped keep McDowell win the game.

For the Titans they end the season at 24-7 and it was the end of a magical ride which provided many exciting moments in which I have never witnessed for the boys program. I think expectations at the beginning of the season was for a conference title and the ability to win a playoff game or two. To make it to North Carolina's version of the Final 4 is a great feat. I particularly feel some love for the two seniors on the team, Chris Twitty and Andre Conley. The impact that Chris made on this team is something that can't be measured, we will definitely miss him and Andre, who was our defensive specialist, we'll definitely miss what he brings to the table.

Now as far as those who return...it all starts and ends with McDowell's post player, Petey Hausley. Check out this line...(26 points, 13 rebounds and four blocks) Petey elevated his game greatly during the 4A playoffs. He has went from a player not well known outside of McDowell County to now a person being scouted by small Division 1 programs, infact I saw Western Carolina in attendance this morning, in other words this past two weeks was Petey's coming-out party. Despite being just 6'6" (not ideal height for big time D1 programs) he has the heart and determination to challenge any big man in the state. Of all the public schools I have seen McDowell play this season including all those charlotte schools, I haven't seen anybody in the interior the equal of Petey Hausley.

The fact that McDowell returns Hausley, Terrence Kincaid, Brock Barnette, Daniel Simolke, Jordan Dalton and Brian Twitty, the expectations going into next season for the McDowell Titans will be the highest they have been in a very long time. IMO if they can get someone to take over at the point that is solid, then I see no reason why we cannot be in Winston-Salem again next year to fight for a state championship.

I would also like to acknowledge the crowd support of the Titans today. There have been some folks on the internet who talked smack about our fan support and I think today's game may shut them up. Infact from where I was sitting I noticed a sports writer from one of the regional papers turn around and look just prior to the start of the game...the look on this persons face ( who I will not name out) was priceless. Kudos to Vance, they also brought a vocal and respectable crowd in terms of size.
