Hello everyone. My daughter's name is Kayla Shelton, former pitcher for the Dirt Dobbers 14U and rising freshman at East Burke High School. A few weeks ago she injured her right leg during a softball game and we got the MRI results back today. She has a significant tear in her ACL and will undergo surgery soon to repair the damage. Those of you that know Kayla well, understand how much she loves softball and how devastating this news was for her. Please remember her in your prayers as she begins the journey of recovery. Thanks so much.

My DD who lives and breathes softball is also out with an injury, all though hers could have been avoided! I hate to hear about any player out missing what they love to do more than anything in the world! Good luck to your DD and she is in our thoughts and prayers! Get well soon!

Please make sure she gets top notch physical therapy, and does everything they ask and more. Hopefully, she'll be ready by spring!

    You are in our prayers

Please tell Kayla that we are thinking of her, and WE KNOW how much she loves softball, and how it's killing her not to be able to play.
She, along with your entire family will be in our prayers, and please let us know how things are going along the way....
It'll be a long road to recovery.....
Tell her that we said to hang in there!

    Very good advice....

....about PT. Its SOOOO important. You want to have your DD come back stronger than before. It takes work and dedication and pain. As for missing time on the field, well, yes it sucks bigtime, but she's got to remember to be patient, don't overdo anything along the way of recovery, and most of all, don't make the big mistake of coming back to soon. good Luck Kiddo! Agree 100%

Just went through torn cart, right knee and rehab with my oldest.

She was begging to get in a game 4 weeks before she was released. Of course the answer was no, and she didn't talk to me for a little while.

Don't rush it, especially now that the summer is 1/2 over. Take the time to rehab right and give it the time it needs to heal.

Will keep her in our prayers....the waiting is the hardest part for a kid!!

I'm sure the doctor has probably told you by now but replacing the acl has about 6 months rehab before you can play again. My DD had hers replaced in Aug. a few years back and was playing hs in Feb. of the next year. Although still somewhat tender. Hopefully, it didn't do more than tear the acl. The meniscus damage still affects my DD. Good luck; hang tough!

Don't know how you managed to get an MRI so soon without battling an insurance company but that's the way to do it. The sooner you get an MRI the better off you are!! Advice to anyone who suspects a torn acl: Demand an MRI!!!

We will keep Kayla in our Prayers and God always has everything in control.

5 years ago my oldest daughter who was looking to be one of ACR's starting pitchers her freshman season. In Feb. she tore her first of both ACL's. Ironically we opted for total knee replacement with Dr Jansen at Blue Ridge Bone in Asheville (He was Great). 3 months later and a lot of hard work in rehab she went back on the field for a July 4th tournament. not ready to pitch but ready to play. By the start of the next HS season she was back better than before as a pitcher. Thanks to great understanding and coaching by Former USC All American Megan Mathews - Now Mathews Bunting @ Coastal Carolina Ast Coach. She is Great as well.

However God's plan was not for Caroline to Play Softball and that pre-season she slipped on a wet first base and tore her other ACL.
So back to the OR we decided again to do the Total replacement opened up knee the whole nine yards. This time she came back again but could never overcome the fear of getting hurt again. This is where we should have listened to God the first time. She Recovered but choose not to start pitching again and decide to just play a less demanding position.
That fall God took her to a church service with a group of her friends one during her senior year. This is where God really took control. She and God decided overnight she needed to got to Honduras over Thanksgiving ( in 4 weeks). So with all of her experience raising money over the years to play Travel ball . In 10 days she had raised enough money to pay for her un-budgeted trip to work with an orphanage in the back country of Honduras. She also had an extra 500.00 to buy those little girls Things they needed at the orphanage. Now she is majoring in Spanish and Psychology with an International Business minor at NCSU and will finish in three years after skipping her 1st semester as a freshman to continue to do God's mission work in Central and South America.
She has been on four differnt mission trips and is always looking for the next opportunity to do more for Jesus Christ and other people.
She does love to watch her younger sister play and will argue she is better than her younger sister.
OUR FAMILY has been really blessed by the 2 torn ACL's
God Bless you Kayla and Godspeed for recovery.

I think we sat next to each other this past year at EB during that 11 inning marathon when my other daughter was pitching.
