I posted a shot from the backstop I took of one (HECK )of a play @ homeplate ----- outstanding effort of Charlotte Cobras runner, and Dirt Dobbers catcher in Rock Hill last Saturday.... Rich Davis , also had a burst of shots from his Nikon of the same play, from another angle, Rich caught some PRO shots of this play, and on further review, what a PLAY ... Check them out...

Great pics. Excuse my ignorance, but based on the no-call I assume headfirst is OK at the plate in tournament play? Is it still a no-no in high school play? Somebody inform me on the rules...thanks.

Not that I'm an expert on hs, just a hs coach, but head first slides at home plate happen most games.

I don't think any national sanctioning body (including NFHS) cares whether the head/hand or foot is first.

Although NC may have some special rule that I don't know about.

I'm getting old and I forget alot of things, but I remember a rule outlawing head-first slides at the plate due to potential injuries to the head when coming in contact with catcher's gear - maybe that was a baseball thing, and I could be wrong about it being in high school. Anybody else remember something like that?

I know for a fact that it is illegal in little league, not sure about high school or travel associations, but suprised that high school has not adopted it. Not sure of my opinion on it. At first thought i'm not in favor of it seems like an unnecessary risk to take but i'm always open to suggestions. Thought the same thing about metal cleats but you guys set me straight. Oh my i just acknowledged that i listened to cheeze, guru, jfagala, cometfan, and some of the rest of you and that it influenced my opinion. oh woe is me!!! this day started out so well:47:

Head first sliding at the plate, or anywhere else, is NOT illegal in high school... nor should it be illegal.
