    Ref needs to resign

Read this article ,if true, He's bias and ignorant ....everyone knows now where he stands in women sports..and he will only make it worse when a controversial call is made...no one will believe him...he has ruined his reputation ..and if they continue to let him ref womens sports...they should resign also... a slap on the hand won't work.. this is my opinion

    Official

Tough call to make without being there. I am an assistant with a men's basketball team and because of my big mouth have been told numerous times by an official that he will not listen to an assistant coach. I hope it will give the official a different perspective on the Women's game. I also have a daughter that plays sports and hope that all officials do take the games seriously.

    Just crazy

If the article is true, the ref should be fired. If it was misquoted, I chalk it up to another bad story by the CO.
Either way, a coach is a coach, boy or girls, men or women. Most dedicate their time in something they like to do. No reason to think any coach is less than another unless that coach doesvsomething to deserve it. Even then, I don't see why a ref would take a shot. No need for that.
With that said, do we tell women that want to serve on the front line that they can't??
Is as much put into womens sports as there are mens?
Are women treated as equally as men?
Why are there no comments on the article........

I have seen lots of high school girls & boys basketball over the years. Most refs attempt to do a good job for both. But it is also absolutely true that some of them ARE biased. This especially shows when there happens to be two of them working the same game. What comes across is that they think the girls game as just a warm-up for the boys game. You can see it when they continuously miss calls (or refuse to make calls) for the girls, then suddenly start looking sharp for the boys.

Fortunately we don't see this much in softball, probably because the biased individuals stick to baseball. Now, we do see our share of poor umpires, but at least most respect the girls and the game.

Maybe the supervisor of officials around the state should go to games and set in the back unnoticed and observe the refs and umps. My boss will observe my work to make sure I'm doing things correctly and teachers at school get observed all the time. It will keeps refs and umps in a more professional level.

    Respect for girls sports

If the media would show a little more respect for girls sports would also help.
For example the girls teams usually play the first game of the night but most sports writers always write up their report showing the boys game first and with a big write up with play by play. Then they will have one or two paragraphs if lucky about the girls game. If the girls game is first why not report their efforts first. Same thing for softball vs baseball, If softball is actually covered you will see if lucky a small write up compared to baseball which is covered play by play. In my opinion girls sports has always been cheated by the media and officials.

    Wild Idea

With the permission of the board, why don't we start a discussion which allows for a write up of girls games around the state? We could limit to so many words but make sure we get highlights and box scores. Your thoughts? If this is some how against policy, would there be any interest in a NC website that provides this information? There would have to be a slight fee for membership just to pay cost of web but who knows, maybe sponsors would pick up that cost.
I agree these kids need their opportunity to be noticed and this idea might just help their cause. I have additional ideas that could add to the exposure but do not want to have my total concept stolen. Maybe a new discussion?:22_yikes:

If they would reorganize this forum, that would be a good idea. The same text that is turned in to the local papers could be posted here where it wouldnt be edited to nothing.

I have to say though, that our local paper really does a good job with the local HS sports...
