AC Reynolds petitioned the NCHSAA to be realigned in a new conference. They wanted to be placed in Asheville's 3A conference. I understand that it may be closer, but why do you want to move down to 3A? Sports program falling?? Who knows, but glad the NCHSAA denied this request.

Owen also petitioned and was denied.

what i have been led to believe is that reynolds petitioned to be moved from the NW4A because they had a LONG drive ahead of them to EVERY away game of the season....in my opinion very good reason to want out of the conference...especially with gas prices as they are now

I can't stand split con.'s so I can't say I'm sad to hear it. I still hate the fact that Crest will be in a split con. next year with Gaston County. Crest can go into the 4A playoffs and only have have played like 3 4A teams to get there. Something just isn't right about that.

Long travel also means low gate/concession returns.....this affects the entire sports program as football brings in the most money. Kannapolis is not too happy with their upcomming move out of the NPC next season. They're looking to take a huge cut in funds from this move.

At least the Wonders get rid of North Iredell

I can't believe how few fans they brought to the game I saw last year. They almost brought as small a crowd as Harding.

From what I've read on NCHSFootball.com there are many Kannapolis insiders unhappy about the move to the SPC. I'll admit that the NI crowd does'nt travel too well but most of the others draw pretty well. Mooresville, W. Rowan and Statesville usually deliver huge gates. As you probably already know Kannapolis' home attendance has dropped off anyways these last two years. There is concern over this as well, I guess we can call this the "Massey Effect", I bet Ktown Yankee could give us all the info we need on this board. I'm sure that I'm not telling you anything that you dont already know. Peace.

Courage is FEAR, that said it's PRAYERS.
Just so you people know, it was the administration that was doing the petitioning, because the lack of money that was being brought in from fans at our home conference games. The last year we played Watauga and South Caldwell at home we had less than 75 paying visiting fans come to Reynolds for football, and as most everyone knows football is the money sport in high school. When you have no fans coming from the visiting teams you can't afford to keep playing them. I can assure you the athletes, and fans love playing in the 4A, and are happy the petition was denied so we could keep playing in the NW4A conference. The decision to petition was strictly a $$$$$$ decision that the administration did to try to help solve a financial problem, that is all, nothing else. It has nothing to do with the level of our sports program!
